Consistently excellent food, large portions, generous amounts of seafood in dishes. Have never tried the smorgasbord. Only downside was a long wait on the last visit, this has never happened previously View all feedback.
What Margret Romaguera doesn't like about Taste of China:
Terrible service, mediocre food. Pass on this place next time. By terrible service I meant that we waited over 1 hour to get our food while dining in for lunch and it wasn't that busy. Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: CA$10–20 View all feedback.
This restaurant is under new ownership, and it's a fantastic mom and pop Chinese restaurant. The staff and the atmosphere is charming. The food is fresh, and the dumplings are homemade! The staff make the experience worthwhile. The restaurant is spotless. Definitely worth driving into town of you're on the road, or hitting up the golf course.
The food; sweet and sour pork, lemon chicken, ginger beef, black pepper chicken with veggies was a nice alternative to the traditional beef with veggies stir fry which they also had, Salad side of buffet consisted of 1 pasta salad, a bowl of green salad with 4 dressing options, a platter with beets, sweet butter pickles, tomatoes and cucumbers and then further down there was watermelon, cantaloupe, mango tapioca pudding, some sort of dessert rice pudding, and deviled eggs, or should i say a deviled egg, there was only one. The buffet dishes were in very small quantities. Given there was only our family and one other in the restaurant the whole time....so is good and bad. I wouldn't want to bring a group of 10 unless i gave them a call first, but at least i know the food i am eating hasn't been sitting out all day....that being said the chicken balls were pretty crispy, but the deep fried shrimp was good, and the spring rolls were a bit soggy. There were a lot of dishes with vegetables both with spices and without, which i liked. My favorite meat was the lemon chicken and my least favorite was likely the spring roll....i have high hopes for those and their seemed to have a curry flavor about it that overpowered both the inside mixture and the soggy wrapping. For dessert we had the options of store bought no name ice cream (disappointing! tiny cookies that resembled peanut butter cookies, or marshmallow rice crispy balls. Hubby and my 2 yr old enjoyed the marshmallow balls, and while i did try the cinnamon swirl bread it seemed stale in both texture and taste. For our drinks we were delighted they carry Pepsi products and offered mug root beer, as not many places do and mug is caffeine free as opposed to Barqs. Hubby downed his drink rather fast and after the worker walked by about 4 times without asking how the meal was or to refill, my husband had to go to the back and ask for a refill. Seems refills are free as we weren't charged for the second. The waiter seemed nice enough but he's definitely just there to occupy the space and handle the bill before you go....so although the food was ok, it's not a place i would go out of my way to go to again.....which is kind of sad, as this was a restaurant my husband grew up celebrating at....It seems they have gone down hill alot since then. I can only give our visit 2 out of 5 stars this time.
