In recent years, the café must have made a lot of improvements in old reviews. The service was very good. I had the house Ramen. It was very good. We ordered the delivery we know it was a difficult offer, but we had two children who were tired and didn't want to leave the hotel to go to a restaurant. We had three rubies, one on full wheat, and two chicken strips with frits and Bbq sauce. Every time I’m in Des Moines I always stop for lunch or dinner at Gateway. The food is always delicious and I enjoy the dining experience.
Stopped for breakfast this morning and found a diamond in the rough. Ordered the Denver omelet with breakfast potatoes and toast. Breakfast potatoes were homemade not the usual cubed mass produced breakfast potatoes. Little cold this morning so had a table by the fireplace. Nice working gas fireplace that put out some heat. Great proportions.
Our group ordered three pad thais and all of them were inedible. Too much sauce, too much salt, and no vegetables. Not even bean sprouts. And it was expensive. Should have gotten the quesadilla....
Recommended by a co-worker and I am so glad we stopped for lunch on our road trip. My salad was excellent. So was my daughter's. And my husband enjoyed his sandwich. Ingredients were fresh. The menu is extensive. The eating area was clean and modern. Highly recommend.

We wanted to try something new and were very happy to find this café/market.
