What User doesn't like about Rice Bowl:
Not quite like Chinese food we have had before. Might be good if you like food a little bland. Chicken fried rice tasted like it was made with old left over roasted chicken. Egg Rolls were good. Service seemed to be overwhelmed, as there was only one server and every table was covered with dirty dishes. Smaller portions, which was good since it didn’t taste fresh. View all feedback.
Another highlight on the menu is the Cashew Chicken and Almond Gai Ding. You won't be let down—the portions are filled with generous pieces of white meat chicken, along with a plentiful amount of cashews and sliced almonds. They really don’t hold back on the ingredients! Everything I've sampled here has quickly become a favorite. This family-owned gem has earned my loyalty for 40 years. The food is excellent, and the staff is fantastic. It's my number one choice in Des Moines, IA. — Judy Butters
This restaurant offers the classic Cantonese and American Chinese dishes that I fondly remember from my time in Chicago. The fried rice is the best I've had in Des Moines, and the egg foo young is simply flawless. It's operated by the warmest family, who genuinely take pride in their food and service. I hope they never change a thing!
The restaurant has a calm ambiance and the staff are very friendly. I had the sweet and sour shrimp dinner, which was decent, though I wasn't a fan of the shrimp tails being included—this is just a personal preference of mine. However, the real standout is the egg rolls; they're absolutely fantastic! I could easily make a meal just from those. Plus, there's ample off-street parking available.
I've been enjoying meals at the Rice Bowl since the 1980s, and there's a reason for that: the food is fantastic, and it's run by wonderful people! Without a doubt, they serve the BEST egg rolls and wonton soup in town. The quality is consistently excellent; they truly excel at what they do. Thank you for always being there, especially while so many other local restaurants have come and gone!
