Goldfinch - Des Moines
Goldfinch
Description
The restaurant, located in the city center, fell short of being a great spot for business meetings due to lukewarm proteins and a cold atmosphere. Despite this, the vegetable momo and garlic nan were outstanding, and the goat curry was enjoyed by one diner. Service was praised as very good and attentive. However, there were complaints about slow service, incorrect orders, and small appetizer portions, which could be detrimental to the restaurant's success. On the bright side, the staff were described as very nice and helpful, providing unique and delicious Nepalese cuisine at fair prices. A mid-week visit revealed a quiet atmosphere with outstanding service and quick food delivery. Overall, the food was delicious, with standout dishes like the Iowa corn soup and chicken breast. Unfortunately, the restaurant has since closed, leaving patrons with fond memories of good food and service.

Our reservation was at 7:00 and two of the beef entree options were not available. We would have liked to at least had the full menu available. We order an appetizer and our salads just to get things started. Both arrived at the same time, that is never a good start to excellent service. Our server was not very attentive but adequate.
My husband and I went for a mid week dinner here and it was very quiet as they were having a slow night. The wine list was ok, could use a better selection of sparkling. That would be my only gripe. Our service was outstanding I wish I remembered her name, but she was attentive and quick. Our food was came out very quickly too and was very good. We will go back again for sure.
If the service does not improve, this restaurant will not succeed regardless of the quality of the food. The restaurant was not very busy during dinner service. The service was slow, the orders were incorrect, and neither server was very welcoming or attentive. The appetizers were delicious but if they were intended for sharing, they were very small.
