Chuck's - Des Moines
Chuck's
Description
A neighborhood Italian staple in Des Moines, this nostalgic spot charms with hand-tossed thin-crust pizza, homemade appetizers, affordable classic dishes and a lively music room. Friendly, attentive servers and regular live bands create a warm, local vibe, though recent visits note inconsistent kitchen execution—soggy or overcooked pies and uneven sauces—and frustrating parking. Crucially, the building lacks wheelchair ramps, handrails and designated handicap spots, which limits accessibility despite its welcoming atmosphere.

Chuck’s is a Des Moines Legend. My husband and I loved their happy hour! Dine in or get our pizzas to go- it’s still fabulous! If you haven’t tried it… do it!
One of the oldest and best fire brick oven pizzas around. Onion rings on point, very friendly staff, tons of seating and even sometimes live entertainment. They also participate in art shows and the Iowa sweetcorn festival. Chuck's is a must!
It sure feels good to have Chuck's open again. Frosty was ice cold and tasty!! Brought back a lot of good memories! Had dinner in the music room, they had a live band. Food was great, atmosphere relaxing, and the music was wonderful! And, the staff was efficient and pleasant. Thank you for a really nice evening!
I am thrilled to have Chuck's back open! The chilled drinks were refreshing and tasty, reminding me of many happy memories. I enjoyed my meal in the music room, where a live band performed. The food was outstanding, the ambiance was soothing, and the music was wonderful! Additionally, the staff was prompt and friendly. Thank you for a wonderful evening!
I visited this restaurant about four years ago and gave it a one-star rating at that time. My parents used to enjoy dining here for many years when the original owners were in charge. Hoping for an improvement, I decided to give it another chance, but sadly, I was disappointed once again. I ordered cavatelli, but the sauce was watery and lacked flavor. The baked potato appeared to have been left under a warming light for far too long and looked more like an overripe black banana. The chicken livers were very dry. On a positive note, the onion rings were good. The waitress did kindly take half off one of the dinners, which I appreciated, but it’s clear that they need to hire a more skilled cook. Overall, I am very disappointed.
