What Julie F doesn't like about Ye Olde Gate Inne:
We arrived at the correct time to b told our booking had been cancelled.as it was an 80th birthday celebration we were disappointed and upset by the rudeness of the landlord. Then we went to the other pub in the village where the staff were super friendly and the food was great so we had a lovely evening would highly recommend the miners Arms and avoid ye old gate inn View all feedback.
I visited with my sister and my sister, who had carved about eating before. we were not disappointed. we choose three different meal times that were all excellent and really crumb. even if that wasn't my meal, I must mention it: the rib eye came with four huge juicy mushrooms, loaded crispy wobble rings, garden bass, a generous salate and much too many (beautiful non-fat chips, but best was the pfeffer corn sauce. it was so nice that we all immersed our chips in it until they were all gone. unnecessary to say we had no place for desserts. another beautiful thing, was that we were made to feel very welcome by all the employees and we were satisfied when the landlord/cook came to chat after service was over. sad I live an hour from my sister and she is 40 minutes away from this pub, but we will be back.

While staying in a nearby village, this inn was recommended to us and we decided to give it a try for lunch. We were pleasantly surprised by the charming and quaint old pub with a lovely garden and picturesque views. The weather was nice, so we opted to dine outside with our dog (who was also welcomed indoors). We appreciated the short blackboard menu featuring home-cooked meals. The trout and the chicken with mushrooms and tarragon sauce were both delicious. The service was charming and the lunch was truly relaxing. We highly recommend this place!
Food well cooked and prepared. A good variety of meals even on the restricted Monday menu. Generous portions. Friendly staff. Wine choice great. We will be back.
We were visiting a few churches in the area with a group of 10 friends and we had booked into The Gate for lunch. What a warm welcome we received. The fire was burning brightly in the grate, the brasses were gleaming and the tables were all invitingly laid out ready for our meal. The menu had lots of choice but most of us were enticed by the pie menu, steak Stilton being the most popular with game pie and chicken leek also chosen. The servings were so generous that only a few of us had room for afters but these also looked delicious . A good selection of real ales too. Excellent service and ambiance. Would thoroughly recommend. Thank you for memorable visit.
