the best chinese in derby. my partner and I tried elsewhere, but we always come to peony! we had no bad meal and are always impressed by the quality, price and service. Visited store for takeout when in store male behind the counter on the phone waiting over 5 mins to be served, when approached male was very rude and trying to rush my order which due to particluer ditery requirements these questions were required, very rude male no manners food was very bland better chineses in Derby this ranks at the bottom. Always look forward to our food from here, clean, fresh food, friendly, never once been disappointed and I'm pretty hard to please!!!
Well tonight was let down, egg fried rice wasn't hardly warm. Sorry won't be back. Not very good really, you need to check the food is hot.
I ordered from Peony house recently and decided to have Sweet and sour chicken in batter, Salt and pepper chips and Egg fried rice. I did also try sweet and sour pork Cantonese style and some prawn crackers. The total price for my food was £14.60 which is a little steep considering other resteraunts you can try a bit of everything for less and they a are much nicer. The sweet and sour pork Cantonese style really wasn’t very nice, awfully chewy. The salt and pepper chips were so underwhelming compared to other Chinese takeaways and needed way more flavour, just bog standard freezer chips, fried with a tiny bit of seasoning. The egg fried rice was sub par and the pieces of egg too big, it didn’t come well together with the rice. The sweet and sour chicken in batter was such an unusual shape and although the batter was nice, the meat was dry. Sweet and sour sauce a nice colour and consistency but full of pineapple, prawn crackers big but flavourless. Wouldn’t be rushing back here anytime soon, unfortunately.

Peony House in Derby is my go-to for the best Chinese takeaway. I don't mind traveling over 15 minutes to get there because the staff is friendly and the food is absolutely delicious. I highly recommend trying the Crispy Shredded Beef - it's a must-try!
