I had snacked wayy too much which left me just hungry enough for dessert. The waitress, Nicki, directed me to the banana cream option. With glazed banana on top, the creamy decadence was just what I was craving. Thank you for the lovely service and food

Root Down is a restaurant that has received mixed reviews. Some customers have found the food quality to be underwhelming in relation to the price, with limited choices for brunch and drinks. However, the French toast and lamb burger have received some positive mentions. Others have had issues with the service, with servers being described as rude and uncommunicative. There have also been complaints about missing items from orders and mistakes in the food that was served. Nevertheless, the restaurant has also received praise for its innovative menu, especially for those looking for vegan or gluten-free options. The ambiance is described as beautiful and eclectic, with outdoor seating available. While the food may be on the pricier side, the experience at Root Down has been memorable for some diners, making it a recommended spot for a unique culinary adventure.

The restaurant provided excellent customer service in accommodating our large party. They went the extra mile to arrange our seating in advance. The food was fantastic, with many of us choosing the more affordable small plates and lamb sliders. The outdoor patio was cozy and shielded from the chilly wind, making our special birthday celebration for a friend even more memorable.

The service at this restaurant was fantastic and the food was absolutely amazing! The rockfish dish was the best I've ever had.

I went for brunch on a Saturday and the food was creative and tasty, although it was served lukewarm. The noise level inside was so loud that it became annoying, with younger patrons almost screaming after a few cocktails. The high decibel level inside the warehouse garage-like space could benefit from some acoustical panels to improve the dining atmosphere. However, the service was friendly and excellent from the moment we arrived to receiving our drinks at the bar and the food being served.

Such good food, everything tasted amazing, but portions are very small. We ended up leaving hungry. The restaurant itself is cute too, I just wish you got more bang for your buck.

We had a pleasant evening overall, but I was surprised to see that the extra 5% gratuity added for the kitchen staff was calculated before tax. I'm not quite sure why I would be expected to pay taxes on a tip.

The rockfish was one of the best dishes I’ve had in a long time! Paired nicely with a tequila coconut fizz

We were seated on the heated patio which was much quieter than the restaurant. Lots of vegetarian options and fun cocktail choices. It was a healthy, delicious meal. Service was efficient and friendly.

I was here last minute. Loved the food and drinks. My server Carolyn was fantastic! Saw on the terrace. I tried the devil on Horseback both here and Linger. I like them a little better in Linger, because here there are nuts in them that I didn't work very well. But still good.

I stumbled on Root Down when I was looking for the best places to eat in Denver. They had reservations for their outdoor terrace on the same night, and I am so happy that my husband and I decided to dine here. The food was excellent. Every dish we ordered was super designed and surprised with complicated, delicious flavors that were a pleasure. We shared four small plates, each had two cocktails (also excellent), and each ordered a dessert and espresso. The whole meal was very cheap at just under $200, and we left completely and very satisfied. The menu was well thought out and courtesy, with several vegan and gluten-free options. The restaurant itself is beautiful, eclectic and elegant. We sat on the covered terrace and were very comfortable. The Root Down is located directly on the city center of Denver in a beautiful, quiet and quirky neighborhood that we strolled through before our meal. Street parking is overcrowded, but feasible, and there is a paid parking directly above the street, you should use it. Root Down was a wonderful culinary experience that we will remember and recommend to our friends. Next time we are in Denver, we have a reservation ready for another delicious meal!

Root Down is an excellent spot to visit, as well show off some of the delicious spots that calls Denver home. I’ve eaten at Root Down several times and have enjoyed my time there. The restaurant is consistent and the ambience is very pleasant. My only nit at Root Down is the food isn’t that exciting, or there isn’t that dish or two that I crave and must come here to enjoy. Again, the food is delicious and the staff are professional, but my hope going forward is Root Down start to own some signature dishes. The menu items are common amongst other places with similar vibes.

Very recommended. One of my favorite spots in dinner. We've been here for years. Every seasonal menu does not disappoint. Ordered sweet potato fries (fruit for mustard/ketchup to make vegan). Note: Great Dijon Senf. For dinner, the lamb slides and carrots chose Thai Curry soup. If you like lamb, these sliders are above notch. The table also ordered the Lamb entree and the roasted Tofu Paneer (vegan). Page note: You can add extra tofu. The Tofu was amazing. Perfect consistency and the dish is packed with taste. Frozen Margarita and beet cocktail were both very A. Very recommended for a meal. Reservations are often required.

I did not like the cucumber lemonade. Disgusting!!! The small plates were pretty good, but seemed to lack an true inspiration or flavor. My family shared nearly every plate on the menu. Nothing exceptional. Stellar wine and beer selection. Nice staff. Coll patio. Nice view of downtown Denver. I really like the salads. Really fresh and tastey.

Root Down features an eclectic menu of fresh, organic foods that are hand crafted to produce a new medley of flavors that awaken the palate. This is an instant favorite for brunch, lunch, or dinner. The staff are friendly, and the ambience is welcoming, lively, but not distracting or loud. The address may seem out of the way, and the menu far from the routine, but the adventure will prove well worth the departure from well trodden dining paths.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about this restaurant, and was anxious to try it, but, apparently, I picked the wrong day. We went with a group of five on a Friday evening. We had reservations, and, yes, you should make reservations , but they became confused through some failed attempts at communication. Nonetheless, we all found our way there, and sat down to enjoy some time together. The restaurant is very cute, but very trendy. It is situated in what formerly was a filling station in a historic district of Denver, and, yes, you can actually eat in the service bays. Right away, we discovered they have good Happy Hours deals, $3.00 craft draft , but the tables on the patio, at least the “little” patio aren’t really suited to people our age, or groups our size. This place is perfect for groups of two to four, and within the age group of 21 to 35. It’s not really suited to older folks, except for the nostalgia of the filling station itself, and the memories posted as “art” on the walls. Now, for the food. The happy hour beer was good, especially at that price. Just know that the happy hour beer is their choice, as is the wine, but that’s not really unusual. For the things to eat, patrons can choose from soups, salads, “small” plates, sliders, or full-sized entrees. There are a lot of vegetarian choices on the menu, and the menu does change from time to time. On this visit, I was fortunate to sample the Veggie Burger Sliders for $9.50, and the Sweet Potato Falafel for $8.50. For my tastes, the sliders were too “mushy,” no texture , and not really very flavorful. As for the falafel, I like falafel, but this was falafel by name only. Falafel should be crisp on the outside, and tender on the inside, but never “mushy.” Yes, it too, was mushy. OK, I understand this is trendy food trying to “redux” classic recipes, but, if I want a Veggie Burger, I’m still going to Red Robin where they do Veggie Burgers right, with bottomless fries for a dollar less. Also, even thought I appreciate their effort, and the falafel almost had the correct hint of flavor, if I want falafel, I’m still heading to Marakesh down on Colorado Boulevard and Illif. It is good for chefs to be creative and alter recipes, but, when they do, they need to at least try to approximate the flavors and textures of the original dishes. Having an idea, giving it a recognizable name, and making it pretty does not a good dish make. They might be able to fool the young kids with such trickery, but my pallet is more mature. One final note on Root Down. This is the only restaurant I have ever dined at that required me to “pay” before I got my food. Oh, I don’t think they do this for everyone, but they did it for our party. There were five of us, and they wanted to move us to a larger table, we were crowded around a table for two , to open up our table for a smaller party. Unfortunately, our food had not arrived, It took almost an hour! , and when I told the waitress we were being moved, she presented us with the bill to, “Square up.” I thought the bill would be only for our drinks, but it was not. They wanted payment for the entire bill even before we tasted a bight of our food. Being the good patrons we are, and as is our custom, we still left a very nice tip, after all, we held up that waitresses station for nearly two hours while we waited first for our drinks to come, then to place our order, and then for the food to come , but the waitress did not even thank us! I guess she is used to 30% tips; I don’t know. The ultimate insult came later when they tried to present our bill again! Hey, this place may be good, and maybe not, but one thing’s for sure – they sure do not handle crowds well. If you go, go in a small group, and never, ever on a Friday or Saturday. There are plenty of other, good restaurants in the area where you will food just as good, but much better service.
