Rioja - Denver
Rioja
Description
Rioja offers a menu with a mix of hits and misses, featuring dishes such as the exquisite Artichoke Tempura and the delicious Hazelnut nuts, while falling short on items like the Saffron Fatuccine and Ricotta Gnocchi. The food is beautifully presented and tasty, but the same cannot be said for the inconsistent service experience. Despite some minor mishaps with the food temperature and sauce portions, the strawberry rhubarb ice cream and artichoke ravioli shine on the menu. The ambiance is marred by a lack of climate control, but the overall dining experience is saved by attentive servers. In contrast, Rioja consistently delivers great food and service, making it a standout favorite in LoDo. The elegant food presentation, along with dishes like chestnut soup and handmade ice cream, make for a memorable dining experience. The menu is well-rounded, featuring offerings such as filet mignon and Royal Red Shrimp. However, the late brunch experience was not as strong, with underwhelming drinks but great selections from the happy hour menu. On a positive note, the sangria and appetizers like the tempura shishito peppers were hits. Overall, Rioja offers a mix of highs and lows, making it a restaurant worth trying for its standout dishes and impeccable service on the better nights.

Each time we go to Rioja we are reminded what great cooking is and how fun it can be. Every time we go the meal is like a personal concert for your tastebuds that makes you want to come back for more. Balanced food with great service, and Justin (our waiter) was so kind and welcoming! Just terrific.
Feel like there's a lot of miscommunication, definitely did not want a second glass of wine but was given a second glass of wine and charged for it. It felt a little forced, I did stop the server staring at the glass of wine with displeasure, but decided against sending wine back out of respect. Most servers would be quick to notice, but again, my fault because I did say never mind. Food was good, but definitely on the lower scale in relations to fine dining in my opinion, nothing really stands out. Our first experience was much better than our second experience. It might just be different during different seasons. Overall, still worth trying.
The experience at Roija was great! Food/Service/Atmosphere/Value all top notch! Our server Alan was the perfect combination of professional and personable. I’d highly recommend Roija to anyone looking for creative cuisine.
Hands down one of the top 5 meals we have ever had. Highly recommend. Our new favorite for sure.
We sat at the bar and got to know John our server. He was extremely attentive and knowledgeable about their menu and wine list. Most importantly, he was a terrific and engaged human. The food was excellent and the entire experience wonderful. We can't wait to dine at Rioja again!
