Speed's Pub - Delta
Speed's Pub
Description
The restaurant received mixed reviews regarding service and food quality. Some enjoyed the perfectly prepared steak sandwich and delicious salads, while others were disappointed with slow service and watery soup. The atmosphere was described as casual and friendly. Overall, the establishment seemed to have potential but needed improvement in certain areas. Despite the mixed feedback, loyal locals praised the patio and hidden gem vibe of the restaurant. The menu featured indulgent pub classics made with fresh ingredients. While there were some issues noted, prices were reasonable, and many patrons expressed a desire to return for future visits.

You may be thinking 5 stars is a little generous for a place that could use a bit of a facelift but Speeds isn't the type of establishment that you go to expecting fancy fine dining. Expect an old fishermen's pub, right on the water, who is as original as the boat parked out front. Great pub food at reasonable prices. Favourites include deep fried pickles, California wrap, wedge fries with garlic dip, and the turkey schnitzel which you can order as a burger, or as a dinner with shrimp Neptune sauce, or a mushroom gravy. They've kept it simple and the Ladnerites approve!
Overall this place wasn't bad. Decent wings, nice little patio area, and great service! Prices are reasonable enough, and their mimosas are huge!
Since the reno, which consisted of removing the carpets and painting the entire place grey. A few nautical s added. Place is busier not sure why the menu is short, and really not great value. The happy hour menu is awful. The beer specials are good. The wait staff is also good. I would like to see chicken wings, riblets, etc. the individual poutine is good but the Truffle fries are not. I still like this place and hope that these issues are just growing pains.
Best chicken burger around! Couldn't ask for a better location. Our server was great! Can't wait to visit again.
As for the food, the special soup was ribeye chili, but I found it to be a bit watery and lacking in meat and spice. It was served warm, but I prefer my food to be served hot and then cool down naturally. The timing of the soup and the main dishes was a bit off, with the food sitting under a warmer before being served. The fries were warm, but not hot, and the tartar sauce was runny instead of thick. On the positive side, the steak sandwich was perfectly prepared, the cob salad and salmon salad were both delicious, with real salmon used in the salad. The waiter was a bit slow, but still did a great job overall. Unfortunately, I did not take any pictures this time, but maybe next time.
