Poseidon On The Beach - DEL MAR

We found this restaurant while searching places to dine on our vacation. We were impressed by the website and the location of the restaurant. However, when we arrived the place was loud and nothing like we had anticipated. The atmosphere reminded me of a nightclub. The young staff were so unprofessional. My family was seated so close to the bar outside that we were unable to hear one another over a group drinking at the bar. The waiter even rolled his eyes passing this group several times but did not ask if we would like to move. It is definitely not a place I would suggest for dining with family. It is a great place to party with friends. Forget the description of the website! Sadly the food was also not very good. Save your money.

Our luncheon experience was a like a roller coaster ride, Tremendous ups and downs. It began with our initial entrance into the restaurant. I asked the hostess for change to a dollar for the parking meter. Begrudgingly, she went to the bar and exchanged my crisp $1 bill for 4 shiny quarters. We were then seated outside were the view and ambiance was fantastic. Bright sunshine, fresh air and the crashing of the surf was a fantastic setting for lunch. Here is were the rides became interesting, we ordered 2 hot teas, one came within a few minutes, the 2nd took almost ten minutes, the excuse was a shortage of teapots. We then ordered and it consisted of, an Oriental Chicken Salad, Steak Salad and a Fiesta Nachos appetizer. After watching two other tables receive their food (who ordered after us), our salads arrived, but NO nachos. The waiter forgot to put the order in the interim; we made multiple requests to have our hot water for tea refilled and our water glasses refilled. Some times it happened and other times it did not. After finishing the salads, which were outstanding, the nachos appetizer arrives. While the salads were delicious, the nachos were as bland as cardboard. Bottom line, great location, good food, however, our waiter should find another profession and the hostess should enroll in a peoples skills class at the community college.
