Found Fanatico while looking for some takeout, and so glad I did! The people were so friendly, welcoming, and made great conversation while I waited for my orders. I took a long time to look at the extensive menu, and the staff gave me a helpful overview. We got the capellini alla vodka with chicken which was wonderful...the sauce was just the perfect amount of creamy and not overwhelming. Also got the stuffed baked... View all feedback.
What Fiona W doesn't like about Fanatico Cucina Italiana:
Pre COVID this was one of my favorite places to eat. Now it's gone downhill. The food was disappointing to say the least. The calamari was underdone and had a super strong fish odor. The mozzarella sticks were room temperature and not goey at all. The buscayola sauce is my favorite and still had good flavor, but the gnocchi was massive, I would say about the size of a half dollar, and crumbly. I went in for pick up a... View all feedback.
It was my first time going to this restaurant for a birthday dinner on a Saturday. Walking in, there were maybe 3-4 tables being served, which I thought was kind of weird. You'd think on a Saturday night, the place would be busy, especially for Italian cuisine. That right there should say something about the place. I asked for shrimp francese with fettuccine noodles. The plate was overflowing with sauce. The lightly battered shrimp was drenched from the sauce that it was incredibly soggy. The sauce itself wasn't very good, either. A very sour taste that I couldn't stand taking bites of my pasta with. A few bites and I was done. The service was the only redeeming quality. Our waiter was very informative and helpful of any menu items, and refilled our drinks ever so often without having one of us ask for refills.
I have been happy that this place was opened couple years ago. As the town size of DeKalb, this is a very good choice for Italian food. This place wouldn 't give you that extremely exciting above and beyond feeling; however, it would never disappoint you either. Their price range is very reasonably marked for what they are offering. Every dollar you spend here is worth it. This is one of the few spacious restaurants you see in DeKalb and it offers a very comfortable dining experience. The waiting staff is always friendly and helpful. Besides the dining area, they also have a bar which is very good for group activities. I saw couple time that people have some sort of party or gathering there. Their food is pretty good! Usually I love to order seafood pasta, but I don 't feel too much about their seafood selection since I can easily get some better seafood pasta elsewhere. But!!! I LOVE their chicken selection and the outstanding quality. Definitely excellent!! Their chicken steak is very tender and juicy that 's not very common when it comes to chicken breast. I highly recommend their chicken pasta with their homemade lime and wine sauce. It 's one of the best sauces I had for pasta! It 's well balanced and it 's just perfectly right. You 'll like it. Their tomato based sauce is good too but I 'm more of a fan of wine based sauce or white sauce. So it 's up to you. Then, you need to know this their bread is amazing, yes I said amazing! It 's not just something you eat before your entree, it is truly something that tells you oh it 's good I want to come back again even before your pasta arrives.
Also got the stuffed baked shells, which were great as well. And the bread that came with it all? Lord. The portions are pretty large and worth every cent. Although my first time here was only to take out, I'll definitely be back to dine in, the place is gorgeous and spacious. I'll take any excuse to drive out to Dekalb to eat here again.
I think this is my family's favorite restaurant in DeKalb. We tried it last year for the first time on my wife's birthday. I was going to pick up Olive Garden to go, but I suggested Fanatico since it is right in town. Everyone agrees that we made the right choice, and we haven't eaten at Olive Garden since. Having eaten here at least a half dozen times in the last nine months, all the adults in the house agree that the Chicken Fanatico is the best dish on the menu. My youngest son, who is 10, swears by the Gnocchi with Vodka Sauce. My oldest, 11, is autistic and lives on burgers, fries, and nuggets. Even he loves the spaghetti with marinara. Of course with a couple of meatballs. Everyone loves the garlic knots! At least once a week I ask this kids what they want for dinner from out. Fanatico is always mentioned. This is a great place you should definitely try.
My kids and I found Fanatico on yelp and decided to give it a try, after having a super busy day at a nearby university. We were seated at the outdoor dining area once we went inside the restaurant. Going through the inside space, I saw that the place was outdated and looked more like a bar more than an Italian restaurant. Our server was nice, friendly and efficient. We tried the following dishes: CHICKEN ROLLATINI- The chicken was delicious and filling CARBONARA- This was just okay. CHICKEN ALFREDO- There were big chunks of chicken but the sauce lacked flavor SIDE OF MEATBALLS- Not good at all. The portions were big but we did not really appreciate the quality and taste of the dishes that we've tried. The Marinara, Alfredo and Carbonara sauces did not taste fresh nor made in house. They also lacked flavors. I am not crossing out Fanatico on the list of places to dine whenever I'm in the area but it also won't be the place I'll be looking forward to visiting anytime soon.
