View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Restaurant Irodion:
View all feedback.
Excellent. Ausgezeichnet. If I lived in Deggendorf, I would be a regular here. I learned about Deggendorf from a fellow train traveler and decided to check it out. Unfortunately, I rolled into town at around PM, and by the time I got to the...middle of town, it was close to PM, close to afternoon pause for many restaurants. At first I walked into the highest rated Greek restaurant in town; it was stuffy looking, and they refused to serve me because the kitchen was almost closed. Then I walked down the street and lucked into Irodion, Which was much friendlier and more authentic, a nicer atmosphere all around. The server was friendlier, too, and was glad to seat me and serve me lunch, which was outstanding. Very good food. If I’m ever in town again, I will stop by.
I was drawn into the restaurant today when I was running errands in DEG and saw a sign along the main street advertising their lunch specials, which start in the range and max out at around Lunch specials include a small side salad...and a small drink. I had the suzuki special, which came with rice, metaxa sauce, and a small basket of bread, in addition to the small side salad and the small drink. Basically, for the price, you get a ton of food, some of it really awesome, some of it OK. The meal had highlights and lowlights. The suzuki were delicious. They were juicy, loaded with fresh herbs, and tasted like they had been cooked on a proper grill. The rice was also good; my only complaint is that I would have liked more than a tiny scoop of it. The metaxa sauce was well-seasoned and delicious, but the sauce had started to break a little bit by the time it made it to my table. The bread was nice and crusty on the outside and soft on the inside, perfect for mopping up the metaxa sauce. However, one side of one slice of the bread was a bit dried out. The salad was mostly iceberg lettuce, with one or two bits of arugula thrown in. There was one slice of tomato, but it wasn't a very ripe tomato and didn't really have much flavor. I know that it's January and not peak produce season; in this case, it would have been better to just leave out the tomato. The dressing was just OK. The meal also included an unexpected, free shot of ouzo. The staff was friendly and quick. There were lots of family photos on the walls and the staff there today was definitely in the family photos. However, the restaurant doesn't necessarily have a friendly environment the lighting was yellow and the restaurant was a bit dark, and not the romantic kind of dark. I also understand that today is the first day of spring break for students at DIT but I was the only person under the age of about while I was there. The restrooms are shared with a bar and were OK in terms of cleanliness but there was no heat on today and they were freezing cold. Given the value for money, I would most definitely come back, but I'd probably leave the side salad.
I can definitely recommend this place, which boasts excellent service, food, atmosphere. It really feels like Greece in the middle of Germany. The servings are huge, you will probably want to pack the rest of your dish
I had the chicken souvlakia and a Dunkel Veiss. The meal came with a salad an an apertif of Ouzo to start. The skewers were cooked perfectly and the sauce was amazing. I will definitely visit again!
