Sprig - Decatur
Sprig
Description
At this neighborhood restaurant, patrons have had varied experiences worth noting. While the inviting atmosphere and impressive cocktail list draw diners in, the food has often left much to be desired. Items like the grit fries receive mixed reviews, and some have encountered issues with order accuracy. Service can be hit or miss, with both overwhelming waitstaff and disappointing waits reported. However, the establishment’s commitment to community during tough times has been acknowledged. With a solid reputation for burgers and a gluten-free menu, this venue seems to hold potential, promising a delightful, if inconsistent, dining experience.

The restaurant has a warm and inviting atmosphere, with delicious food to match. It's an ideal spot for a lunch in the neighborhood, which is a rarity these days. Plus, there's plenty of parking available!
One of the biggest disappointments I've experienced recently. We had hoped this spot would become our neighborhood favorite, but unfortunately, the food fell short. I ordered the grit fries and fried green tomatoes for my meal, and they both had the same breading, which made me regret choosing two similar items. The grit fries were actually tasty, and I enjoyed the dipping sauce that accompanied them. However, I had asked for the tomatoes without goat cheese, and I had to send them back when they arrived topped with it. The cilantro lime sauce on the tomatoes didn’t match well and really detracted from their flavor. My boyfriend had the swordfish, which was dry, accompanied by rice that was also poorly prepared. Our waitress was new and seemed overwhelmed, at one point nearly in tears from some mistakes with the table next to us. She was friendly and clearly trying her best. The highlight of our meal was definitely the cocktails; we might return just for those. We had requested a spot outside without a reservation, but the charming side area was full, leaving us at the curb in the parking lot out front. We also noticed that anyone under 30 who arrived was directed toward the speakeasy, which was interesting to observe.
Recently, my friend and I visited our usual brunch spot, but we were quite disappointed with our experience. We ordered the fried green tomatoes, but they were sliced too thin and not enjoyable. For sharing between two people, there should have been six tomatoes instead of five. My friend’s eggs Benedict had issues as well; the eggs were soft-boiled instead of poached, the salmon resembled beef jerky, and the muffin was not toasted. Additionally, her grits were served hot, but by the time she received a spoon, they had cooled down. I ordered the pastrami Reuben and, regrettably, I have to say that Arby’s offers a better sandwich. This meal was a sharp contrast to our previous visit, which had been delicious. Unfortunately, we are now considering finding a new brunch place. I don’t like giving negative reviews, but I feel it's important to share this feedback so that improvements can be made. Please do better. Food: 2 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
