Pine Cone - De Forest

Came here on our way home from my doctors visit. The place was busy but the food came out quickly and the staff was very friendly. The bakery items looked immaculate! I didn't get to try any as I have health issues but I had to take a picture of their cream puff. Wow!

Disclaimer: The food is really good! However, the place is absolutely disgusting inside. I know it's a truck stop but yikes. The floors have crumbs everywhere. The tables are sticky and not cleaned in between parties. The booths have not only crumbs but huge chunks of food all over them. This was by far the dirties restaurant I've ever dined in at. I was super hesitant to eat anything because of how dirty it was but gave it a shot anyway (after sanitizing the booth myself). I was pleasantly surprised with how amazing all the food came out. I got the cinnamon roll French toast and it was perfect. The bread was fluffy and flavorful and the icing was the perfect ratio of cream to sugar. Everyone else in our party said their food was really good as well. They have a bakery up front with lots of different pies and pastries. They all looked absolutely amazing! This place has serious potential if they put some effort into cleanliness and taking care of the place in general. If they cleaned the place up, I'd be happy to return again. Until then, I'm steering clear.

Ok so we stopped here to eat instead of TA up the street. They didn't have a restaurant. We saw the billboard on the hwy too. It's a Roadys truck stop. Wow as soon as we walked in we saw the WONDERFUL sweet Jerusalem on a bicycle showcase full of goodies. We instantly decided to try a Carmel apple. The apples are from Wa where we r from)! Omg he is cutting it up with his knife. Nice cold crisp Granny Smiths. All goodness of tart n sweet. I think it's been years since we both had a Carmel apple. We ate some before dinner then polished it off for desert. Sooo delish. Ok let's get down to food! Our waitress was great and took orders immediately. Me rib eye n backed potato with salad. The steak was not seasoned but I fixed that with salt and some butter. I'll ask for it seasoned next time. The roll was huge but good. I ate some but couldn't put that all away. Bf had Taco Salad with fresh tortilla bowl. It looked really good. Three sides of 1000 island , salsa and sour cream. Our waitress came around 3 times to make sure we had everything we needed. Awesome. It had been along time since breakfast so we ate everything except most of the huge roll.

Great prices and satisfying meals, and great specials. The waitress was super sweet. Nice diner spot for a traveler to get a grub on!

Pine cone in deforest is closed...probably for ever!! sad to see it go, it was a favorite meeting place.
