What Vacation27552877449 doesn't like about The George:
The staff were pleasant and the food was tasty but the restuarant, bar area and soft seating in front of the fireplace were tired and in need of a deep clean. A good effort had been made with the Xmas Dec's it felt very festive. View all feedback.
Dropped in for lunch without booking. We were put in the snug which we loved because it was quiet. Staff very attentive and friendly. 3 of us ordered roast beef Sunday lunch. It was excellent value for money, 5 different vegetables and plenty of them, the roast beef was cooked perfectly. It’s on our list to visit again when we’re in the area. Would highly recommend.
We showed up without a reservation and found the restaurant to be very busy. The owner was able to find us a table for 4. She took our drink order and advised that due to the busyness, there might be a wait for our food order. We didn't mind and had a wonderful time. The food from the menu for over 60s was delicious and the London Pride ales were great. We had a fantastic experience and commend the staff for their hard work. Kudos to all. Peter Jordan.

Will have to return soon.
The staff at the restaurant were friendly, but not as organized or self-motivated as they should be, leading to a lot of confusion. The starters, particularly the local pate, were delicious and full of flavor. However, the main course was average at best and not served all together as expected. Some in our party had already finished by the time all mains were served. Dessert was decent, but one person in our group was forgotten and did not receive one. The cheesecake was not cold and it took 40 minutes for dessert to come out. We did receive a 10% discount and a polite apology at the end. Overall, I would not recommend going to The George when it is busy. This experience prompted me to leave a review, as it was not up to standard.
A group of nine of us dined at the George on Friday evening. We enjoyed sitting in the conservatory, where they had a nice selection of beers including Doombar and Landlord. The food was good, particularly the Hunters Chicken that I had. The Gammon and Egg dish and Rump steaks were also popular choices. The service was excellent, with our food being served promptly and our glasses being refilled as needed. Overall, it was a great evening and we are looking forward to our next visit.
