Was Anonym at Ruby a mag?
I quite often come here for a quick lunch during the week. The gado gado is excellent and very fresh. The pho is also very nice and very filling. The staff are usually very quick and friendly. View all feedback.
What Anonym dislikes about Ruby:
Location is excellent at a street corner with trees and public space. Busy on a Sunday with yum cha crowd. Some old Chinese being taken out on Sunday by family. Ordered 7 dim sums. No tea. Tap water. 50 dollars. Quality, if using best Sydney yum cha as a 10, is no more than a 5. Best was taro. More than half were Chinese, suggesting there is not much competition in this market. The service and food were both fantastic! The pork belly and beef shank clay pot fried rice were out of this world, with amazing flavors.
The food at this restaurant is outstanding! It is so delicious that I could eat there every day.

The food was good, and came out quite quickly. Prices are average. All in all a good choice if you want some good viet food at a nice venue.

Here for the first time during lunch and ordered the coconut chicken with rice. my father ordered the beef pho noodle soup. the aromen for both dishes were at the top. decided to dinate here in the following night and order, sweet and acidic pork, Mongolian bark and cashew huh. again, all dishes were served fresh and the aromen were good. one of the best Asian restaurants in darwin!
Update: I gave ruby another chance because a family member could not stop fleing about the pho! So at another visit the pho was really much better and I might have just gone to a bad day. the lemongrass chicken kewers and the spring rolls were also top, a good experience this time round! . . when I ordered this in December last year, I really did not understand why or what the people renown. if I am very straight and honest, I have tasted better elsewhere (e.g. non la on knuckey st). the pho here was delivered to the table lukewarm, and the basilikum did not seem to have a very aromatic fragrance that was quite disappointing. I'm here a few times and it's not bad! many seats in both indoor and outdoor. eating is delicious and are sufficient. the rare bark salad taste was well balanced, but more veg. tried a bbq boar that was also good. they would benefit with a lunch special menu. waiting for eating was quite long as it wasn't so busy.
Ruby is one of these restaurants where they make very good dishes and other dishes terrible. they had delicious Vietnamese beer, good peache salad, but a terrible duck with 5 seasons. as a background it is hard to get the guts especially in the remote city as darwin, so I give them that. but why do they have it on the menu. unfortunately it was too gamy and tasted a little bit. the plum sauce and the spiced hidden piece of this taste, but if they have a somewhat sensitive palette, they send it back.
Modern decor is showing a little wear tear, but hey, so am I. Staff were friendly and attentive. First course Duck salad was great. Fresh, light, crispy with a ginger dressing that might have been a little too sweet for me, but wasn 't over done. Then the second course.... And it all came crashing down.... The Sweet Braised Pork with Egg in Clay pot was a let down. The chunks of pork were dry with and equally dry hard boiled egg with grey yolk perched on too, all sitting in the 'young coconut ' broth which was sweet, but needed some spice, seasoning or something to set it off.
