Bushell's Upper Deck - Dartmouth
Bushell's Upper Deck
Description
Bushells recently transitioned to a new location, taking over the former Sails restaurant. While the revamped space offers stunning river views and friendly service, it currently struggles with atmosphere and consistent quality. Some diners reported uninspired dishes and slow service, linked to staffing challenges. However, others celebrated the impressive seafood risotto and welcoming ambiance, describing the venue as a hidden gem perfect for a relaxed dining experience. As the Riverside location prepares to reopen, diners may wish to explore this temporary option, while keeping an eye on future improvements as the restaurant evolves.

A first class dining experience in Dartmouth, especially if you can get a window table with great views of the estuary. Most friendly and helpful staff. Can recommend the liver and onions.
Lovely spot over looking the river, get a window spot if you can. Smallish menu with an Italian slant, all freshly cooked and well priced. House wine particularly good and very reasonable. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. Recommended. This is a pop up so may not be around for too long!
What’s not to like, great pizzas, and a seafood risotto that is up there with the best. Service great as is the drinks selection, will certainly visit again when in the area.
Very dissapointing. Had been to Bushells Riverside (the sister restaurant) in the past and had been very pleased with service, food and drinks. However this was not our experience at the newer Upper deck restaurant. On a plus, the Service was very attentive, but drink selection was only adequate. We did request a bottle of their wine of the day, but sadly they had sold out, so we had to do with champagne, as no alternative was offered! The food choices were pleasant, but my special dietary requirements meant only a limited, and bland offering was given. When the food arrived, portions were not vast, the potatoes (supposed to be crushed) were mashed and in a mass under the small fillet of fish. There was no garnish, so the meal looked very bland and lacking in colour. I requested some green veg with the aim of freshening up the dish. After a while, the veg arrived, but this was literally a bowl of shrivelled up, microwaved peas and green beans without any dressing. I made comment to the very attentive manager, who explained that the restaurant was between chefs and so a temp chef was filling in until a new chef had been sourced. As some compensation, I did not have to pay for my dissapointing meal, but I would have preferred to pay for a decent meal and gone away happy. This was not the case. My advice..... Do not go at the moment, until a new chef has been employed.
