What Matt361 doesn't like about The Royal Victoria Bull:
Dined here a few weeks back. Car crash of a meal. Manager apologised, refunded the whole bill. He said he was determined to improve the food and experience. We braved it and tried again. Wish we hadn’t. The roast dinners were stone cold. Every part of the dish the meat, the veg, the gravy all stone cold. We told the barman/waiter, he said he’d let the “chef” know. I have had different experiences at this pub. Usually the food is delicious and service is good. However over the last few weeks service and food seems to be disappointing. A few weeks ago we had to order dessert 3 times due to lack of stock and only cheesecake was on the menu. We were only told this however after already paying and being asked 3 times to change our order. We recently ate here and even though the pub was extremely quiet we waited around 50 minutes for our food which mostly arrived cold, you could tell it had been sitting in the kitchen and heated quickly in the microwave. This is a shame as we usually love eating here however over the last few weeks the amount of food unavailable has been disappointing and it hasn’t been as good as usual. Just to say, we can’t fault the staff they are always polite and helpful, it’s mostly an issue with the food recently. The place feels different to a few months ago.
This place frustrates me because the experience is so inconsistent. We’ve been here and the food has been really good and then popped back a few days later and felt let down. The staff are friendly and they try their best and as I say, the food can be great. Over a recent bank holiday weekend we were told (only after ordering drinks) that about 75% of the menu wasn’t available. The reason? As it was the bank holiday they hadn’t had a delivery. Come on, management knew it was coming so that’s just poor planning. We will go back as it’s a nice pub and if they can sort out the issues I will post an updated, improved review.
I dined at this restaurant on a Friday evening. The atmosphere was lovely, with Christmas music playing and the staff were friendly. They were knowledgeable about dietary needs and offered a great selection to accommodate everyone. I was pleasantly surprised to find a variety of dairy-free and vegan desserts, not just sorbet. I highly recommend the salt and pepper chilli chicken, the chicken New Yorker, and the vegan jaffa gateaux. I am looking forward to returning.
Staff friendly and helpful. We both had the fish and chips and enjoyed it, fish was very good. Cosy atmosphere, nice and warm.
