Authentic cuisine, great service – a Darmstadt classic We had a thoroughly enjoyable visit to Restaurant Sitte – a truly traditional establishment steeped in hi... read more Authentic cuisine, great service – a Darmstadt classic We had a thoroughly enjoyable visit to Restaurant Sitte – a truly traditional establishment steeped in history yet at the cutting edge of culinary arts. The bruschetta was surprisingly fresh – not just the classic tomato, but also arugula and a hint of pesto. Crispy bread, good oil, aromatically seasoned. The side salad in a glass was not only beautifully presented but also flavorfully balanced. The gratinated goat cheese – a success. The beer goulash with spaetzle was a highlight – robustly seasoned, buttery tender meat, a lovely sauce with depth. The creamed schnitzel with spaetzle was also classic, very well prepared. The burger came with a brioche bun, tomato, lettuce, good sauce, and a portion of crispy fries plus a fruity tomato salsa – solid, if not gourmet. It was accompanied by a delicious Grohe Helles beer. The chocolate cake was perfect, served with vanilla ice cream and crispy biscuit crumbs—a classic, very well executed. The panna cotta with berry sauce was finely balanced, not too sweet, with fresh berries, and visually appealing. The ambiance is sophisticated, not overly stylish, but down-to-earth and elegant. The service was attentive and friendly. We'll definitely be back.

We regularly visit this restaurant for special occasions and celebrations because the food is always excellently prepared and seasoned. The beverage selection is also always top-notch, contributing to a pleasant experience. However, there was one small exception on our last visit: The service by employee Ehs. was not up to the usual standard. His manner of serving was somewhat subpar, which we also addressed during the meal. We were particularly negative when, at the end of the evening, he pointed out the option of giving tips directly via the cash register instead of earning them through his work while serving. We ignored this as it didn 't bother us. I would like to see such employees regularly participate in training courses or workshops to further improve their service skills. Despite this incident, Restaurant Sitte remains one of the best in the Darmstadt region for German cuisine, and we are already looking forward to our next visit.
