Rye is an incredible spot with a captivating dark academia vibe. The food was surprisingly unique and absolutely delicious, and the drinks matched perfectly. Wendy provided outstanding service, and we even had the rare opportunity to meet the chefs, which made the experience even more special. I will definitely be returning! Rye offers fantastic food and a great atmosphere, though portion sizes leave something to be desired. We opted for a la carte instead of the tasting menu. Among the drinks we tried—Fernet-Ture, Fire Island, and Wake and Bake—I enjoyed Fire Island the most, while Fernet-Ture was just average. Both the Icelandic hot dog and I'll shoyu were delightful and well-executed. We were told that the pork belly lollipop, Don't Be Shellfish, and the lamb belly dishes were meant to be shared, but I disagree. Although all three were delicious, especially the ocean trout, the portions were more suited to a single person—more like half portions by Texas standards. We didn’t feel fully satisfied until dessert, where the cheesecake and Kraut cake were perfect for sharing among three to four people. The ganache and meringue on the Kraut cake were especially addictive and a must-try. This place would easily earn a 5-star rating if the a la carte portions were larger. I’m interested in trying the tasting menu someday, but the price is quite steep, even for a high-end restaurant without a Michelin star yet. I’ll definitely return, but likely only for special occasions rather than frequent visits. Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Atmosphere: 5/5 Price per person: $100 Meal Type: Dinner Service: Dine-in

Where to start... I chose Rye for a dinner date with my wife after seeing a 4.5-star rating on Google and thinking the prices seemed reasonable at first glance. It was our usual pre-concert spot before heading to the Meyerson, a tradition we've kept for over 25 years. Unfortunately, we were both very disappointed—an experience unlike any we've had before. The positives: the atmosphere was nice, and the presentation of the dishes was appealing. Beyond that, there wasn’t much to praise. The negatives: drinks were a letdown. I ordered one that sounded interesting but neither of us liked it. It was so off that I sent it back and tried another—something I rarely have done in my life. The second drink was just average at best. The food was even worse. We ordered three dishes; two were mediocre, as shown in my pictures. The third dish was inedible—overwhelmed by an excessive amount of pickled ingredients that completely masked the flavors. My wife, who loves pickled foods, even stopped eating after just a couple of bites. We're adventurous eaters and not picky, but this just didn’t work. After the concert, we ended up grabbing fast food instead. Service was okay—not bad, but nothing impressive, especially given the location. Lastly, the pricing was surprising. Drinks were mostly $18 and up, higher than most places. One small dish was $14, another $20, and the last $22—far too expensive for the quality. If the food had been outstanding, the prices might be justifiable, but since it was barely good to outright bad, it felt like a poor value. After many years of trying new restaurants around the metroplex for date nights, this was our biggest disappointment yet. Perhaps Rye just isn’t for us. I honestly don’t see where the 4.5-star rating comes from. I rarely give 1-star reviews, but reflecting on the experience, that’s what this deserves. My advice: save your money and choose another spot. There are plenty of other great restaurants out there. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $30–50 Food: 1 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4
