This restaurant does not do reservations. Having said that when we were seated, the three parties that came in behind us were all served first. I was very angry about it. The gentlemen beside us finished thier meal before we even received ours. Terrible service and small portions, but the food was good. View all feedback.
What Nikki C doesn't like about Camp Cookhouse & General Store:
We have eaten at the Camp Cookhouse several times, and it has never failed to disappoint. The menu is uninspiring, the food is mediocre, and we are always surprised at the ratings here. The menu is full of carbs (which we generally like) and meat (also like), but the vegetable/salad offerings are barely existent. What a complete surprise! I go to Medicine Hat every summer to visit a friend ever since she married a Canadian and moved to this area.
I had super high expectations for Camp as I had been referred to it by a couple people who were emphatic about the awesome food so maybe I was oversold. I

Visited Elkwater, AB for the first time and enjoyed a cool ice cream break at the General Store. We didn't have the time to stop for a bite to eat at the Camp Cookhouse but we had heard nothing but excellent reviews about it. We will make sure to make the time for a longer stop on our next visit. The General Store has everything you could think of on offer. Groceries, games, clothing, locally pickled veg and alike. Recommend a stop when you're in the area.
Friendly, efficient servers and beautifully done breakfast on the deck made for a nice start to the day. Bacon was a thick style and hash browns homemade.
