River Room - Cullybackey
River Room
Description
Afternoon tea at Galgorm has garnered mixed reviews, reflecting a contrast between expectations and reality. Guests praised the cozy, welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff but expressed disappointment in the value and variety of the food. Many noted that the selection felt scaled down and lacked the distinctive charm traditionally associated with such an experience, including missing menu items and overly sweet desserts. While some appreciated certain dishes and the attentive service from staff, others found the overall offerings underwhelming, leading to a consensus that improvements are necessary to match the establishment's five-star reputation.

We ate here for both dinner and breakfast. We had the tasting menu which was 2 hours of pure joy. The room is beautiful with lovely views and a very relaxed feel. The food was amazing and served with with passion and style. Breakfast was delicious, using fresh local ingredients makes such a difference.
Visited to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Very nervous as my husband has been shielding and this was our first trip to a restaurant. We informed the staff prior to our visit and they were excellent. They seated us in a booth away from other customers and we felt more relaxed. They couldn't have done more to make the day great for us and we have booked again for the restaurant. We were really put at ease. The food as usual was first class and the gluten free option was just as great. Would certainly recommend.
What a great surprise to find such a lovely place beside a beautiful river! Good food. We just happened to chance upon it after searching for good restaurants near Ballymena.
I have been to Galgorm for afternoon tea several times over the years, but my recent visit with my mom left me feeling disappointed. While the service was excellent, the food didn't quite meet our expectations considering the price. The savory options were tasty, but there was only one sandwich. The sweet treats seemed store-bought and we ended up leaving most of them uneaten. The menu also lacked some of the previous items, such as miniature soup or trifle/cheesecake. The conservatory, which had initially impressed me with its beautiful floral arrangement and decor, now appeared a bit tired, including the furniture. Overall, I left feeling unsatisfied and still hungry. For £42.50 per person, I expected more.
We have been before, so happily returned to celebrate a wedding anniversary. Sadly, same, old dreary seats which are too low. But that was the only 'blip '. First class attentive and cheerful service, excellent, cleverly balanced menu, and very good presentation. Seating apart, a very memorable evening.
