Everything was fine, taste, price, service and ambience. I tried the Punjabi-Dal and Jugo-Mix. They were delicious. Her nose is thick and perhaps not very authentic. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Taj Mahal:
Service kind of sucked bc there was only 1 person on the floor n 10 tables. Got our drinks at the end of our meal n came out horrible. Food was good, better to order to go. View all feedback.
Nice restaurant. Tasty food and good selection of dinner items. We ordered the oven baked chicken which came with rice and salad or rice and French fries and spinach potato paneer which was good. They also had chicken shwarma and a nice selection of Indian sweets.
Great change of place if you need something outside of the local cusine. The food was delicious and authentic to India and Pakistan. The service was not as good as one would hope. One person working the entire floor. If you are not in a hurry, not a bad choice at all.

At best this place is average, which is concerning as the owner is of Indian decent. There are at least 3 other Indian restaurants in cuenca that have better Indian food. All of the reviews on this page are for their swarma, which is actually a middle Eastern dish. We got a selection of their Indian and Pakistani foods. Both were bland and lacked flavor. The spice pallet was lazy and so we're the staff. When they brought over the chicken pakora the staff dropped one on the table and then he picked it up with his dirty hands and put it back on the plate. The naan bread was a joke. It was made with whole wheat flour and yeast. Which whole wheat would have been fine if it was a health food restaurant (but its not). The yeast also hadn't had enough time to rise or cook. Turning it into this weird bread mush. We gave it back to the staff almost whole and he asked us if we wanted to take it home, we said no. He didn't even question if we liked it it not and simply threw it away! The owner asked one time after the mango lassi came if everything was OK. Which at the time it was because the lassi are really nice. He never asked us again or even came near us again even though we were the only two people in the restaurant. The food is so bad. The service is worse. Just go for a mango lassi or a masala chai and you'll like it.
I am giving this one a 1 star rating because I seen the owner yell and curse at an Ecuadorian man who entered the restaurant. The owner had to be restrained from punching the guy. This is not an Indian restaurant. The owner is Pakistani and he feels he is superior to the Ecuadorian people. Please be aware the all the restaurants that are “indian” and “middle-eastern” are all owned by the same guy. I don’t understand why so many Pakistanis are needed to work at the restaurants. Being a waiter doesn’t require any special skill meaning a local Ecuadorian can be hired to do the job. But I had Pakistani servers. To make things worse the food wasn’t good and it is expensive for what is offered. Pakistanis are supposed to be muslims but they sell Alcohol. I don’t have a problem with alcohol but I have a problem with people being hypocrites. This guy owns all the restaurants in the area.
