Margarita Carrillo is one of Mexico 's most highly regarded chefs. She is the author of Tamales y Atoles and is working on the Mexican Food Bible . She has cooked for the US President Barrack Obama at the latest G20 conference. Her new restaurant is a wonderful homage to the very best of Mexican food. We had a lovely lunch on our recent visit highly recommend it. Margarita is in charge in the kitchen, her son is the sommelier her daughter-in-law runs front of house. We had a most delicious octopus starter, followed by perfectly cooked and sauced relleno baby turkey, then a divine almond tart for dessert. Prices are great value for the quality of food the service as you would expect was most professional. Be sure to check it out. You will not be disappointed.

A return visit was even better than the first. This time absolutely everything was perfect and we had a wonderful dinner. The octopus carpaccio is a work of art to look at and a delight to eat and ever so fine and refined. Sopes with cochinita del pibil was intensely tasty, the mole verde with pistachio accompanying a turkey was at the same time delicate and subtly multidimensional, and this time the cooking was spot on (last time it was a little dry . And a major strength of the cuisine is in the desserts. Overall there is a lot of creativity here, sustained by a deep knowledge of Mexican cuisine (we had a chance to talk to the chef and she is a veritable encyclopedia of food Mexican and beyond! , and by a maturity that avoid any excess of theatricality or effect for effect's sake. A place that deserves returning again and again.

After seeing great reviews of this place and being on a walking tour of the area we decided to stop by for some authentic Mexican food. We visited around 3:00pm and we were about the only ones in the restaurant. My spanish is not great, but not horrible by any means. I asked the waiter to suggest the two best appetizers on the menu. He picked some taquitos and guacamole with some other words besides them. There was no English menu. We ordered a braised rib dish for the main course. About ten minutes later, some fried caterpillar tacos were delivered to the table and that was followed by Guacamole covered with fried crickets! I know that both dishes are a delicacy in Mexico and to each their own! Now Google Translate was not working because we had no internet service in this area of Mexico City so I am partly to blame in ordering what we did. Yet the waiter knew we were not locals and this is what he decides to bring out as the best appetizers. I asked if there was someone who spoke English around and the waiter went to get the chef. The chef was quite nice and explained what we were given. He said that the caterpillars came from the agave plant and people considered it a real delicacy in Mexico. My wife appeared that she might vomit at any moment and she had completely lost her appetite. Against better judgement, I ate one of the caterpillar tacos. It was ok, but not something I would seek out to eat again! The cricket covered guacamole was pretty good, but it was covered with fried crickets! The entree of the braised ribs was really good. The waiter was upset and seemed to think we were going to run off without paying and made sure we paid him right when we got the bill. This was over the top! Of course I was going to pay for the Caterpillar tacos that I got suckered into buying! Yes, I am a Gringo! The waiter seemed to take advantage of the situation vs. making our experience a great one. I am sure this restaurant is not looking for tourist business, but it could do a better job taking care of its customers instead of putting them in the middle of an Indiana Jones movie.

This place has authentic and excellent food. The chef came out and explained the different dishes, even explained how many were prepared. We sampled all of the dishes which were all unique and flavorful.
