I was ambling around the Condesa neighbourhood , looking for somewhere to have dinner and I couldn't find the restaurant recommended by office colleagues. Instead I found Pehua. There was a fairly wordy menu posted to the door and a very friendly waiter who could answer a few questions. (my menu Spanish drew a blank at "rabbit").The overall concept seems to be as follows: a foundation of authentic and extensively researched pre-Columbian flavours, with a healthy layer of creative Mexican fusion cooking on top. I love Mexican cooking and I loved the twists and turns on the menu taking this cuisine to new places. I had a multi variant of corn starter (blue corn, red corn etc) with watercress and goat's cheese with a chowder type soup on the side. I had grouper fish with char grilled Brussel sprout leaves, a tingly herbal mouth cleanser and a deep organic chocolate dessert with raspberry sorbet frozen in a puff of nitrogen. I also appreciated the big open doorway that allowed you to view the chefs and their assistants at work. Excelllent!

The foo... read more I ate dinner here with several fellow conference participants when we were in town. All four of us ordered the tasting menu and had different cocktails. The food was innovative and delicious. The service was super, and the waiters spoke English--probably more English than many of us speak Spanish. I recommend this place even though it is a bit expensive for Mexico City. It is not a fancy place, but it is upscale.
