Oswaldo Oliveria ' gorgeous little restaurant in the Roma district of Mexico city was an absolute treat last night. Opened only 3 months ago, Oswaldo is fresh from the Mugaritz stables and brings modern twist to the city. The menu changes each week, based on seasonality. Each dish thoughtfully prepared in a beautiful aesthetic surrounds. I especially loved the delicate pork belly prepared in front of us at the kitchen bar on grilled house made bread of the day. The bread changes daily, linseed and caraway in rye today, base charcoal grilled absolutely delicious. Finely sliced pork belly is placed upon a layer of razor thin radish, then pork dressed with green herbs and a sauce from a reduction of the cooking juices. We were told the flavour is imparted in the bread not the pork belly, indeed, delicious . The other standouts were the abalone on fragrant lemon risotto with a sprinkle of parmesan and local purple flowers (the name was lost in in translation), digestive vegetable consommé, and artisan Mexican chocolate. We chose 'Todays menu ' of 14 courses, all tiny and left feeling well fed but not full. The other option is the short menu of 9 course, portion sizes larger so the you eat the same amount but have less tastings, clever. Lorea is going places, so is Mexico City, it is superb, aesthetic, absolutely safe with great uber drivers. The chef insisted on providing us with a short list for lunch the next day. My choice is Nico 's, the heart of mexican slow food movement and I will to as suggested for the guacamole prepared table side. After all Eater says its the best restaurant in Mexico city, so its a must do for me. I could easily spend 2 more weeks here, alas.
Amazing international haute cuisine with strong focuses on seasonal Mexican ingredients. The service is also impeccable! Highly recommend to any foodie out there!
High-end restaurant. prices are high to Mexican standards, but very good compared to world cities for a superlative tasting menu with pairings. absolute first tariff service. try the tasting menu. with wine (and other) pairings. highly recommended.
LOREA delivered a very pleasant surprise given that normally set menu restaurants are not my favourite. LOREA changed that with exceptional food and an amazing drinks pairing. The food was fantastic in its own right, but the pairing made it to die for. Even the sequence of the drinks was carefully planned and made a huge difference. The menu is pulling in ideas from all over Mexico, and the results are spectacular. In typical tasting restaurants, all dishes come with a story. While I do not care too much about the typical story, LOREA proved that an amazing dish paired with the right drink and the right story is priceless. As we travelled with our Mexican friends it was interesting to see how the idea behind some of the dishes was not their favourite, however, the execution by LOREA’s chef made them change their minds and they absolutely loved each and every dish. I would have to say that compared to other tasting restaurants, the portions are just about the right size and by the end of the meal you will feel full. This is not a cheap restaurant, so if low cost is what you’re after this is not the place. I would strongly recommend LOREA and will consider it when I am back in CDMX.
My wife and I had a booking for 14.00. When we arrived the restaurant was only just opening and we were politely asked to return in 20 minutes. Not a great start to a fine dining experience and we considered trying to cancel. Neither of us felt comfortable being the only diners. However, we were assured that others had reservations. I have to say it would have been our loss. The food and service was fantastic. We shared a fish skewer, two house tacos and a main each. My suckling pig was tender and perfectly rendered. My wife 's fish was perfectly cooked. We both shared a chocolate desert which was also extremely chocolatey (if there is such a word). Overall a great experience. Why only 4 stars? The wine we ordered wasn 't available. and we were offered an alternative that was slightly dearer . This actually cost the same price as the food. Ouch!
