Nice fish camp type of atmosphere. Food was delicious. Shrimp was cooked just right not overly battered or deep fried. Try the local cream ale. Excellent on a hot day. Service was very good. We highly recommend sitting out back at the railing. You can watch multitude of fish swimming in the clear water. The Tarpen are 4 to 6 ft long. View all feedback.
What Edythe Windler doesn't like about Charlies Fish House:
The price for a crab cake sandwich was listed on the menu for $12.95. We bought two and were charged $32.95. I asked the waitress who was very nice but she said the price went up. I guess that?s the new math. The food is okay there. I don?t think I?ll be watching them on Diners,Drive-ins and Dives. View all feedback.
Absolutely best frog legs!!!! Gator Biss were a little chewing. Onion rings Arta Bland, burger was small, hush puppies could be more season!
Friendly service. Ask to have food seasoned to your liking they don't season routinely, for those with health concerns, but are happy to accommodate your request). Had the fried oysters and turbot. Oysters were small but tasty, a medium order covered my plate, and we got 4 pieces of fish. Both dinners came with 2 sides. The greens were excellent! I was visiting family, who wanted to take me there, and was concerned after the reviews I had read. I was pleasantly surprised and had a nice dinner.
Have enjoyed it over the years.. I've been going to Charlie's over the last ten years with my family and it has always been a hit for us. The broiled scallops are always on the money. Charlie's does seem to have fallen on hard times though in that my experience at the restaurant over the past year hasn't always been positive--I can't truly put my finger on what is missing with this place, but something has changed. While I'd recommend the scallops and the grouper, I would say stay away from the appetizers--you'll overspend for very little (especially with the conch fritters and/or calamari).
Charlie's going down hill fast. I was at Charlies about 3 weeks ago, and found that service and food quality have certainly gone down hill pretty fast. This used to be the premier seafood place in Crystal River but not anymore the staff acts like they are doing you a favor to even look at you, let alone provide service. I don't plan to go back
Not a fancy place/ but great food. If your looking for a fancy five star place than this place isnt for you,BUT if your looking for simple and simplistic than this is your place. no matter what you ware you dont feel over dressed for the place, its simple at its best. always fresh seafood- most caught from area fishermen. what else can you ask for.
