We really enjoyed our last visit. Not sure what has happened but we were left a long time waiting to be seated even though we’d pre booked and it wasn’t even half full in the restaurant. Then we waited ages for our order to be... View all feedback.
What Sceptical-snobbery doesn't like about Meatliquor:
I first tried Meat Liquor about a decade ago, up at the one in Oxford Circus. The food was great, the bar was well stocked and the whole thing was a joy. Queues around the corner. However, it seems like the magic is gone, and Meat Liquor is now just another burger chain. The Dead Hippy was over cooked and rubbery. The chicken wings were dull and small. It really was disappointing to see one of the greats fall so far.... View all feedback.
I would normally be hesitant to eat heavy farms in such meat, but MeatLiquor have a more creative vegan menu with some unusual meat alternatives, so I was an attempt for them. I was especially pulled by the “Tempeh Tantrum” – a burger with tempo, mushroom root, mostly because I really love Tempeh. We have this with one side of Impossible Nuggets that I was thrilled to try how I heard a lot about them and they just come from the USA to Britain. The Tempeh Tantrum was okay. I liked the idea, but I didn't really evaluate the execution – the Patty was a bit squidgy and strange, and the cheese just felt at it instead of a real part of the burger. It felt like the ingredients had been put together because they seemed good on paper instead of a proper reflection on how everything actually worked in the burger. It may simply not have been to my taste, as I would not say that it was bad, I just didn't judge it personally. I would probably not go back to MeatLiquor if there were so many amazing vegan places around, although their other options also look interesting. That said the impossibility nuggets were incredible – crispy, hot and straight delicious. I am very excited to see that Impossible Nuggets appear in more venues and also try the impossible sausage patty!
I’ve been to the original Meat Liquor site in London many times years ago and absolutely loved it. The burgers were unbelievable. At Croydon Boxpark however, I was really disappointed. The bun was a little dry and almost stale (they usually put the bun under the cloche on the plancha when finishing the patty so it all steams and cooks together which makes it nice and juicy) but this didn’t seem to be the case. The patties were also under seasoned although the chips were great I ordered a dead hippie. I would love a burger cooked medium although our ridiculous health and safety/EHO isn’t a fan of flavour so unfortunately we have to ruin the patties and have them well done!! (Of course, this isn’t Meat Liquor’s fault) Service was friendly and the price is good for the portion and usual quality of food. But when you’re cooking something as simple as a burger, all the elements need to be spot on. I’d still return and try something else as I have faith that this was just a one off!
I went to this location with my best friend for dinner. The staff were attentive and helpful, and the host kindly held our table when we mistakenly went to the wrong area of Box Park. The service was excellent overall. I ordered chicken strips in buffalo sauce and sriracha fries, along with a strawberry milkshake and a vanilla milkshake. The milkshakes were amazing – I could have easily had five glasses in one sitting! The presentation of the food was great, but I found the taste to be a bit overwhelming at first and then became bland. The chicken strips were mostly batter with very little chicken, but the fries were delicious. Unfortunately, I felt sick after my meal and ended up throwing up (not in the restaurant). Meat Liquor is affordable (around £10-£25 per person) and a good place to go with friends. The atmosphere was relaxed. Despite the issues with the chicken and feeling ill afterwards, my overall experience at Meat Liquor was positive, hence the 3 out of 5 stars.
Last night, my friend and I visited the restaurant for burgers and received excellent service from a friendly waitress named Fi. She was very polite and efficient. I would give the service a perfect 10 out of 10. The burger I ordered, the bacon cheeseburger, was delicious. However, all the burgers on the menu looked great.
I really enjoyed the food at this restaurant! The server Fi was amazing - very nice and helpful. Thank you for a great experience. I will definitely be coming back.
