I'm originally from New Orleans and this is the best food I've been here since the move here in 08, Chef Karen is AWESOME, she's very passionate about her kitchen, so we you know that she was an outstanding boss, staff was so friendly, friendly atmosphere. DEFINITELY EMPFEHL and I will be a regular customer for SURE.
What a surprise!!! Hidden by the overhead in Crosby this little restaurant deserves a BIG Texas applause! If you haven't found it yet, you don't know what you are missing! Four of us went for lunch...and could not have been more surprised. A laid back atmosphere...great ambience...great food...and great chef, servers, and bus staff. I had to have some of the gumbo to begin...and it was delicious! Seeing that meatloaf was on the menu...and being a meatloaf connoisseur... I always try the meatloaf. In talking with the chef, Karen, and her partner, Beth, I discovered that the meatloaf was conjured up by Karen with the blessing of another great Chef under whom she worked...Paul Prudhomme himself...from New Orleans! Believe me...the meatloaf is #1 on the menu for a very good reason. But be careful... if you want it you must go to Our House the day it is on the menu. Karen only cooks certain items on certain days...so call before you go. The food is so fresh that I had to wait an extra 20 minutes or so for those black eyed peas to finish cooking! This place is a must do! Bon appetit! I won't even discuss the dessert. I'm sure you would not want it. : (This leaves just that much more for ME! And when it is gone...well...it is just gone until another day... . Oops...get there early...cause I think that big boy Matthew could eat it all by himself! :
What a great way to spend time with our family! Feels-like-home decor with restaurant quality dishes. We ordered the award-winning Texas Shine and Hotter Than Bleu Blazes burgers, mouth-watering bourbon-glazed steak, rich and creamy shrimp etouffee. What a great relaxing environment with great food that doesn't break the bank. We'll be regulars!
Good old fashion American values are prominent throughout this home town restaurant. The owners will come out to converse, get to know you, and remember your name when you leave. The food is home made and fresh, so don't expect fast food prices or haste. Figure around $15 per person, but the delicious entrees and service at this quaint cafe are more than worth it. Where else can you eat Louisiana inspired food in a 1921 building while looking at a Harley parked across the street at an antique shop?
One of the perks of my job (at least for me, haha) is getting to explore the city and discover hidden gems. Our house is definitely one of those places I want to revisit. I had the Level 5 Blue Blazes burger, cooked medium-rare, and it was outstanding! Next time, I'll ask the chef to turn up the heat. I was also tempted by the Muffulettas she suggested, so I'll definitely come back to try those! Support local businesses—it's worth it!
