What User doesn't like about Elm Tree Inn:
My husband and I chose different places to eat as weekend treat. Today we chose The Elm Tree at Embsay. Would we return? For a drink, yes- the staff were efficient and friendly. For food? No- the wait was far too long acceptable for...home prepared and cooked food this obviously was not). My fish cakes were OK but nothing special, my husband had fish, chips and mushy peas which was tasteless with watery fish. Upon pa... View all feedback.
Starter took 40 minutes to order halloumi fries only. then wait another 15mins for lasagne and fish and chips
Food for pubs with long wait. nothing special but very friendly staff. will not disturb, with other alternatives available.
Was very busy on the evening we went, staff did say there may be a wait for food and kept us informed, attentive with drinks and the food was delicious. Definitely be back.
Firstly we want to make it clear that we completely understand the challenges hospitality are currently facing, however the service we received was poor even in normal' circumstances. On arrival, I had two questions do you accept dogs and have you any availability (especially...with the covid situation) I was overlooked at the bar twice. The first time I thought I had stood in the wrong place (also the fault of the people who had walked in behind me and my 5 year old son who completely ignored us) after then moving again and standing in the area that I thought we would be served, another family were then again served before us. At this point, I then spoke up. We were seated quickly after that. This was just after 6pm our orders were taken and I confirmed it was table service. Our first round of drinks was served around 20 minutes later. After no other service, I then asked at 7pm if we needed to personally place food orders at the bar, the waitress said she would come over and did so just short of half an hour later. When she did apper, she then explained she was short staffed and food might be delayed. At 8pm there was still no sign of our main meal so we asked again. Our 5 year old was getting tired and ready for bed and our dog had patiently waited for over 2 hours under the table. People who had arrived after us were being served. So we politely raised the issue the waitresses were very polite, however said they would get the chef to discuss the delay. We are very aware of the issue with staff shortages surrounding the Covid situation, however, we are also very aware (working in sales/customer service/hospitality ourselves) how best to deal with customer complaints. This was not ideal. The senior person in place was very quick to aportion the blame to less senior members of the team, even going as far to say they will be in trouble' which is not what we wanted at all! There was no apology at all, just an offer for us not to pay for our meals (only the two main meals (not the child meal or the starter) we would happily have paid for the food had it been served on time and when issues were raised, with an apology neither of which happened we completely understand the challenges that the recent situation throws upon small business however we did not expect the attitude of the chef. Just as a side note food was mediocre. Children's nuggets were poor quality, choices were lower quality bar food, everything was frozen really not the high quality that the exterior and Facebook page suggested. We will not be returning . Such a shame.
