Best Poboys in the area. The family is friendly and work hard to please the masses at lunch. Roast beef is tender, thinly sliced and juicy!! The family also makes the best platings for sale! Trust me!! Can't wait to get my hands on that Roast Beef Poboy Dressed with gravy on the side with Abita Root Beet for pickup today!!!! Thank you BEAR'S!!! View all feedback.

The service at Bear's is both friendly and efficient, with staff always ready to assist you with your order. They are attentive and courteous, making you feel welcome and comfortable throughout your visit. The restaurant itself is clean and inviting, offering a casual and laid-back vibe. Though it’s small and can become crowded during busy times, the wait is absolutely worth it. Bear's Restaurant is a favorite spot for anyone who loves po’boys and wants to enjoy a taste of New Orleans without having to drive to the Southshore. It’s one of the most popular eateries in downtown Covington, boasting a dedicated and satisfied customer base. You won't regret stopping by, and you'll likely find yourself wanting to return. I highly recommend trying the famous Roast Beef or Ferdie Po-Boy! You can thank me later!

Awesome roast beef Poboy. Four of us tried different sandwiches and loved them all. This is the store in Metairie. Service was great. We didn't have issues parking, but I could see it being an issue during busy times as there is limited street parking so you would have to park under the overpass.

We were looking for a good New Orleans roast beef (debris) poboy without going into NOLA. Bear's roast beef is delicious and met all my expectations.

I have loved Bear's since the early 90s and will probably continue to love it until the day I die. I started going to Bear's with my dad when he worked just down the street at Habitat for Humanity. I use to hate going to the office with him (because there is only so much playing in the ReStore a 7 year old can do) but I would always go in hopes that we would go to Bear's for lunch. Back then I'd get a Roast Beef Poboy on a bun and an Abita Root Beer. That thing was sooo juicy it would fall apart in my tiny hands unless I ate it like I was spooning water into my mouth from a stream. Now, 30 years later, I don't live near Bear's but anytime I am within an hours driving distance I make the trip to get a Roast Beef Poboy and my Abita Root beer (Now that I am an adult and can eat the whole thing, I no longer get it on the bun). Year after year the quality continues to satisfy and impressive. In 30 years I have never had anything less than a perfect experience at Bear's. And if they stay open, I'll be making the trek across state lines to get my poboy for the next 30 years.

This was my first visit, and it certainly won't be my last. The roast beef po'boy reminded me of my childhood when my grandmother would make homemade po'boys. Everyone gathered at her house on Sundays. I loved it! Food: 5 stars, Service: 5 stars, Atmosphere: 5 stars.

Believe everything you see on these reviews about the roast beef po boy. It is one of the best I've ever had. Went in around 12:30 on a Thursday. Very small place. There were people waiting in line and all tables were taken, but one came available in a few minutes. I've heard that it's always busy and I believe it. I will definitely go back. Soon! Service: Dine in

I had the best Roast Beef PoBoy I've ever tasted here! For lunch, I dined in and found the prices to be reasonable, falling between $10 and $20 per person. The food was outstanding, earning a perfect score of 5, and the service matched it with another 5. The atmosphere was also enjoyable, rating a solid 4. I highly recommend trying the Roast Beef PoBoy!

This is a charming little po’boy shop. I assume their lack of seating is related to COVID, which was a bit disappointing, as we had to eat in our car. However, it came highly recommended, and since I was out of town, I decided to give it a try. The shrimp po’boy was fantastic—the shrimp were a good size and plentiful. The fries, though, were somewhat dry, almost like they had been thawed and refrozen or possibly freezer-burnt. I didn’t let that bother me too much, as even half of the po’boy was more than enough to satisfy my hunger. Overall, it’s a great spot to grab a bite, and the wait time was quite reasonable. I’m definitely planning to visit again the next time I’m in the area, and hopefully, they'll have seating options available by then.

I LOVE Bear's restaurant I use to go to the one in Slidell all the time until they closed down so when I heard that there was a Bear's in Covington I made my way down there. The prices were quite high but well worth it. Great quality food! I couldn't eat all of it at once.! Pricey but worth it!

It's really difficult for people from out of town who want to enjoy a good po-boy when you're closed on weekends. I guess you don't need the business.

The best poboys I have ever had in my life hands down. No one can compete. My favorites are their roast beef and ham and cheese. So good!

The secret blend of seasonings could have only come from the Garden of Eden, mixed together to perfection—just the right amount, never too much or too little. With every bite, you’re transported back to your mama’s garden, because these vegetables taste like they were picked fresh from someone’s backyard. They are too good, too fresh, and too crisp to come from any commercial farm. The bread, soaked in those heavenly spices and the juices from the beef, exemplifies perfect texture and delicacy. This Po' Boy bread seems like it belongs to a piece of history that can never be forgotten; probably from some hidden museum in the basement of Bear’s, perfectly preserved to flake just right and soak up that divine beef juice with elegance. This place needs to be protected at all costs, and we might need to exercise our rights if anyone forgets why this restaurant is so special. Do not step foot on the grounds of Bear’s Restaurant unless you’re ready for your entire world to be turned upside down. And by upside down, I mean completely smitten by love—the kind of love that only comes from a family-owned restaurant.

I kept hearing about the roast beef po' boy, fully dressed, so I had to give it a try—and it exceeded my expectations! If you find yourself in the area, definitely sample it. I suggest pre-ordering to spare others from watching you drool while you wait.

Absolutely delicious! Definitely recommend the bbq roast beef po-boy and they are fast. But it's a good idea to order early as they are always busy. Restroom and some seating available.

I've been coming to Mandeville over the years to visit my husband's family and I was devastated when they closed down Petunia's because those were my favorite Po-Boys. Then my father-in-law told us about this place and we loved it!!! Looking forward to going back!

Fantastic Poboys. The BBQ cow is excellent. Remember to ask for Gravur if you want a sloppy Bratbeef.

7/11/2018 Been here several times since the last review and it 's always good! Still struggle with all the mayonnaise, but I don 't dare change the recipe. It 's still a hassle everytime I go... but always worth it! Upping the rating to a 5! 12/14/2017 Man... this is the po boy place on the northshore. The roast beef is kicking, but I always get the Ferdie. It 's a roast beef with grilled ham and Swiss cheese on it. Many people complain that there is too much mayonnaise on it, and I agree. I 'm just too scared to say light mayo for fear of losing the magic. There 's always a wait, not enough seating, they 're open odd hours, and they don 't take credit cards, maybe they do... but there 's a fee or something. So the bottom line is... the locals know how it works and call their orders in, they bring cash, and take it back to work to eat it... lol. Previously in 2011, very good po boys...but very busy at lunchtime and very limited seating and parking.
