The Pod Cafe - Coventry
The Pod Cafe
Description
Welcome to The Pod Café, an award-winning plant-based café proudly operated by Coventry City Council. Open every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, we serve a signature lunch menu that changes weekly, showcasing seasonal, locally sourced dishes—much of our produce is grown right here in Coventry by our partners at Food Union on the CV5 allotment site. More than just a café, The Pod is a vibrant community hub. We collaborate with Food Union and other partners to host a variety of events including allotment gatherings, Slow Sunday Dining Clubs, Friday Supper Clubs, a Harvest Festival, Spring Fair, and even a zine festival. In 2023, we were thrilled to receive the ‘Vegan Taste’ and ‘Community Hero’ awards at the Coventry Warwickshire Foodie Awards, adding to our recognition in The Telegraph, The Guardian, and Muddy Stilettos. We welcome you to step into our warm and welcoming space from 12 noon to 3 pm on our open days. We operate a fully walk-in policy without advance bookings and embrace a shared table philosophy, believing in the power of food to bring people together. Our weekly rotating menu might feature dishes like White Bean Cassoulet with Rosemary Focaccia, Masala Chickpeas with Turmeric Basmati Rice, or a Spiralised Summer Vegetable Tart with Pesto—always paired with delightful desserts and drinks specials. Plus, the soundtrack changes daily, so each visit offers a fresh sensory experience. The Pod Café is deeply rooted in The Pod’s core mission of mental health social advocacy and brokerage. Alongside Food Union and Time Union, we’re committed to fostering authentic, critical connections within Coventry’s community—from creatives and entrepreneurs to quiet activists and change-makers. We invite you to get involved by joining Time Union or Food Union and be part of this vital work. Beyond our lunches, look out for our Slow Sunday Dining Clubs and themed Supper Clubs, plus special events like ‘Politics and Pakora’ on some Wednesday evenings—spaces for radical discussions, zine launches, tiny gigs, poetry, and more, blending food with thoughtful conversation and community activism. I learned about this place through recommendations and decided to visit for lunch today. The restaurant offers delicious plant-based food in a welcoming atmosphere. The Pod has limited hours, so I recommend checking their Facebook page before visiting. The menu for the day can also be found on their Facebook page, and today there were two main course options available. The Pod provides great value for the quality of food they offer.
I had a delightful vegan lunch and dessert at this restaurant. The atmosphere was very chill and relaxing and the staff were friendly. I really enjoyed the vibes and the food. Thank you.
The staff at this restaurant are incredibly friendly and welcoming, creating a cozy and relaxed atmosphere. The unique energy that defines The Pod is reflected in its beautiful interior, from the decor to the dishes. Every detail has been carefully considered and harmonizes perfectly, creating a one-of-a-kind ambiance. Each time I have dined at The Pod, the food has been delicious and satisfying, combining warmth and freshness. Our recent visit left us impressed with the Italian summer stew with lemon and garlic orzo, and the heavenly lemon cake that followed. The sense of soul and community shines through at The Pod, always making it a fantastic place to visit. I highly recommend it to anyone.
It was fantastic to get back to the Pod after so long. We received a warm welcome and everything was very covid-secure. Our lunch of roasted cauliflower and black bean curry followed by cardamon cake/sponge cake (one of each, so we could taste both! accompanied by iced chai, was absolutely scrumptious. Much of the food at this cafe is grown at a local allotment which means that it's both fresh and delicious. It was so lovely to be able to return. Thank you!
It was so great to be back at The Pod Cafe after all this time and I was definitely not disappointed! Had a delicious lunch of mushroom ragu and creamy polenta with a side of marinated eggplant and tomato. The food was so tasty and followed by a scrumptious slice of victoria sponge cake. Yum! One very happy vegan : Loved the new lunch set up of a set meal, drink and cake for £8 such good value for money and worked really well with the timings and my lunch break from work. Having said that the card machine wasn't working and they were so kind to let me have the meal for free not wanting to disappoint customers. Such are the lovely people at The Pod. I was very happy to contribute to their pay it forward scheme in return, providing meals to people in need in Coventry. Thank you for such a lovely experience, I will be back soon!
