The Pilot Pub - Coventry
The Pilot Pub
Description
**Restaurant Review: A Mixed Bag of Experiences**
This restaurant presents a stark contrast in dining experiences. While some guests rave about the generous portions, friendly staff, and vibrant atmosphere, others lament bland flavors, overpriced menu items, and inadequate service. Complaints highlight poor food quality, overcooked dishes, and misleading Groupon offers that cut portion sizes in half. Many patrons appreciate the separation of dining areas for families and a lively bar scene, while others express frustration over miscommunication regarding the kitchen hours. Overall, the restaurant has potential, but inconsistency in food quality and service leaves a significant number of customers disappointed.

It’s the worst Indian food I have had in my life. The staff was pathetic, excuse was…the actual staff are not here due to COVID. When I entered, they started to write down what was for the GROUPON coupons. Certainly, from the menu but restricted...to about 6 items from starters and 6 from the main dish. She called me back to the till to tell me what was available. When I asked, why can’t the management print the menu for GROUPON coupons and put them on display or at least on GROUPON site the list should be there…it’s very deviously advertised. One would think, you can have one dish from starters, one from the main and naan, but total disappointment. Naan was also the cheapest and plain. The shish kebab came… one kebab cut into two. That put me off straight away…two small pieces. I asked for a lamb dish but was served chicken. The chicken was very hard, overcooked or done a long while back. I asked for hot (spicy), but it was sweeter than ice cream. Generally, Indian dishes are decorated with coriander pieces on top, but here none. Chef certainly does not know how to present a dish. When I spoke to the chef (certainly well past his retirement age), he told me that portions are cut into half of what they are on the regular menu. Could see two big dishes lying in the open…exposed to all without cover…hygiene??? So, a kebab dish, a main dish and a naan on a regular menu would have cost me 1.50 more but would have fed 2 people, since portions were cut in halves for Groupon vouchers. Daylight robbery. Total rip-off of the pricing, portions and pathetic staff.
We opted for the three-person sharing platter, which featured a variety of chicken and lamb dishes, along with naan, chips, and rice. The platter was served on a large plate, and all the food was delicious and well-seasoned. It was definitely worth it! I would highly recommend this place if you're in the area. All the negative reviews should give this restaurant another shot! We had a great meal for three, all for just £35!
Went here with my family the decor is really nice. food was nice but had to wait a little but they were busy. definitely wood recommend.
The staff were fantastic with my partner's brother, who has a mental illness. However, Google indicated that they were serving food, but when we arrived, the kitchen was closed and wouldn't open for quite some time. This may need to be re-evaluated.
The staff is very friendly. I would rate the food three stars. Just to clarify, there’s nothing wrong with the cooking, but if you're looking for authentic Indian cuisine, this isn't the place for you. However, if you're in the mood for British Indian food, then this is a good choice. We tried three different non-alcoholic mojitos, and to be honest, they all tasted quite sweet and similar. The atmosphere is very nice, and while the service is good, there's room for improvement. There's plenty of parking available on-site.
