Backhaus&co - Coventry
Backhaus&co
Description
Backhaus and Co offers a charming atmosphere, perfect for social gatherings and events, complete with fairy lights and a cozy vibe. However, the culinary offerings disappoint, with overcooked flatbreads, tasteless mac and cheese, and poorly executed breakfasts. While coffee shines as a standout beverage, the service and wait times leave room for improvement. The space is inviting for cocktails or casual meet-ups, with friendly staff enhancing the experience. Despite the mixed reviews on food quality, the ambiance and attentive service promise a delightful setting for summer outings. It's a place of potential waiting to be fully realized.

I am a Coventry kid who can’t stand the likes of McDonalds and Starbucks so I have really tried to like the whole FarGo village experience but previous events haven’t made this easy. I came to The coffee festival which I found out was only in one establishment which gave me the chance to have a wander on a Saturday afternoon. I had a drink in the Twisted Barrel but still can’t get my head around a vegan menu so came here for a meal and a drink ironically brewed at the Twisted Barrel. Lovely food, relaxed atmosphere and not a bad price considering. FarGo village has become my favourite place and today has made me advocate the independent restaurant which is something I always wanted it to do.
Coffee over priced 25% more than my next cup of coffee in Coventry. Having been first in the queue, it took ten minutes for the coffee to be delivered in a cup which it was impossible to drink from without slurping.
I was naive to assume the almost 40 minute wait for a simple bacon eggs breakfast would be worth the wait, it became very clear, when the car/crash food-dollop was put in front of me, that the long waiting time isn’t down to presentation. Toast placed over the beans making the toast soggy locking in heat hotter than the sun to burn your mouth from the beans. Everything else literally just mangled together like it’s all been caught mid orgy. Juices visibly mixing together to make an overall dull taste throughout. Easily the worst breakfast I’ve eaten, nevermind paid for... nice place though, fairy lights are cool aren’t they?
Have been here a few times with my wife as it's walking distance from our house, but mainly to signal our support for a much-needed independent, and creative place to eat and drink in Coventry. In the run-up to City of Culture we need more...
