We were in the quinta that allowed us to have 2 fabulous dinners in the restaurant! service: impeccable; outdoors: incredible; and eating: tasty, kreatiw and fresh! the lucio (sp? fish both nights and the lamb one night and the calves the other. it is not recommended to drive there and back at night (windy roads and no lights up there in the hills of duoro, but in any case worth visiting when they stay in the quinta!
First of all, the views and place are stunning (the drive to get there is beautiful as well, although terrifying to Canadians used to wider roads! . The whole experience was lovely. Service was excellent, food was lovely, wine was excellent.
Terracu 's Winery Restaurant Covas do Douro A very unacceptable cuisine for such a pricey tasting menu in such a prestigious Quinta 838461431 I booked a night at Quinta Nova, Douro valley, to sample wines, enjoy the whole experience of staying in an expensive, rare hotel...in an amazing landscape. We obviously chose the tasting menu, with wine pairing. €70 per person for the food and€40 per person for the wine. The sommelier José was great, spoke very good English, knew his profession and that part was enjoyable. Let 's talk about the food: Amuse bouche was delicious, salmon and fish eggs delicately served on a crumbly base. My husband had a gazpacho as he doesn 't eat fish. The next 3 courses were served on baby mush and insipid taste: cod cheek tempura on mushy spinach soup, quail morcel on mushy pappy asparagus purée, and nicely cooked lamb shank,on a bed of mashed tasteless squash. The chocolate bomb for dessert was ok, very sweet and pretty tasteless apart from the good quality dark chocolate of the shell. The warm pistachio sauce killed it... The range of flavours did not match the delicious wines... I googled who was the cook that evening, as the whole meal was quite disappointing. The service was impeccable and the hotel relies heavily on its prestige as a producer of top quality Douro wines and ports. There 's nowhere else to eat as you are in a remote location, so the management has a captive audience.
An incredible terrace overlooking the Douro Valley. we have made the four cursor days. the Lucio fish over the pea risotto was amazing, the calf was super delicate, the flower veloute was really good, the beet grava was not bad and the chocolate dessert was incredible....The service was friendly and yet professional. we have booked a lunch, because if they don't stay in the hotel, the roads that lead to quinta nowa are small, windy and pitch black. it wouldn't do it at night without light on the streets! in any case, it was too special not to see it during the day!
The menu did not include the individual prices of each starter, main course and dessert. The menu only included the price of the degustation menu (starter+main course+dessert), which was 46 euros. The waiter told us that the main course+dessert would cost 30 euros and confirmed...this information after being specifically asked. However, the price in the bill was 30 euros each main course plus 18 euros each dessert. It is a shame that a restaurant with this potential tries to treat clients like fools. The food and the views were great it is ok to pay that price for that, but please be transparent and show the individual prices in the menu.
