If this is only the 41st best restaurant in the town I can't wait to try the first 40. This place has a Michelin star and it is well deserved. The atmosphere and setting is world class and the service is even better. I ate here for a business meeting and it was one of the best meals I have ever had. I had the lamb pot stickers followed by the filet which was rare, breaded, and then fried. It was great, as was the des... View all feedback.
What Mikael S doesn't like about Ristotante Grand Royal:
For a restaurant at a five star Grand Hotel the food is significantly below average and overpriced. Starters are okey, but pasta or main are substandard. Desert belongs in a all you can eat buffet or at breakfast. View all feedback.
Endroit très agréable et super confortable carte complète et taux constant. réception et service impeccable mais un peu long.
We had 4 dinners here in total and thoroughly enjoyed them all. There is something for everyone and a high culinary standard.
Had lunch with 5 friends and stayed for hours. All the meals from pumpkin risotto to sea bass to tagliatelle were enjoyed by their respective diners. The pumpkin risotto was my favorite. The wines were great and well worth the money. I had a red blend and was the best wine I’ve had between here and the states. We retired to the bar and spent a few more hours there sipping wine, coffees, etc., not wanting to leave on the bus back to Chamonix. While there, check out the decor which has antlers for lamps, chairs, tables, chandeliers, etc.
We booked earlier in the day, during quiet season (end of March), for a table for two.I think in busy season you might have to book further ahead. Actually we initially wanted the Petit Royal but a large group were in there, so we were offered the Grand Royal restaurant, and i must admit were a little apprehensive, thinking we were going to get second best. However, ii was brilliant from start to finish. We were one of only two couples in there. From the moment we entered, the waiters, sommelier and all the staff were exceedingly friendly and accommodating. We chose wines by the glass, with the sommelier's help. They were fantastic, and not overpriced. The dessert wine in particular with our cheese course was fantastic. The food was delightful, a little unusual too, (like saffron risotto with bacon and coffee) but it all tasted superb. We finished with a great selection of local cheeses. We will definitely go again next time we are in Courmayeur. If i could change just one thing, it would be the bread selection, it was very nice, but no different to a local supermarket, and so some home made bread would be in-keeping with the taste of all the rest of the food.
The small 1 star restaurant and the general dining room share a kitchen, and the cooking is correct and very good. formal italian with creativity. Professional and attentive service, and not overly expensive for what it was.
