Toby’s is a classic and I never want it to change been here a few times now and the vibe is always immaculate. Get the mussels and a pint and watch the world turn from a cozy booth. View all feedback.
What Roxy MiCeli doesn't like about Toby's Tavern:
We visited in August 2024 on a random hot weekend in Seattle. As we walked in behind another couple, we got stuck in the doorway because the couple ahead of us was blocking the way. The door was still slightly open behind us when an older lady, who clearly worked there, scolded us loudly in front of other patrons, saying, “Close my door, you’re letting my AC out!” It was incredibly embarrassing. We apologized, explai... View all feedback.
Ordered the mussels plus Ruben with fries The mussels were okay but not great, not worth the hype or the 45 minutes we waited to be seated, they use a whisky based sauce rather then white wine The Ruben sub par, lacking in meat and overly greasy. The fries you could have got anywhere, not good nor memorable Sadly the bottled rootbeer was the highlight I could recommend three places within ten miles that have better mussels, front street grill being one of them. Our favorite is seabolts in oak harbor.
Toby's Tavern Had amazing fish and chips. My husband had the big bowl of fresh mussels and he said they were delicious.
I recently dined here with my Mom and it was such an awful experience. We were both pretty excited about the fish and chips but the fish was probably the worst I’ve ever eaten. The fries were good. However, the worst was the service. Every server was miserable, unhelpful and if you tried to ask a question, they answered while walking away. The decor was fun, it smelled good outside and it was busy but I don’t know why! If you are trying to decide, my recommendation would be to find someplace else.
I will start by saying this is my first 1-star review of a restaurant. It 's the review I wish I had read when I was waiting 40 minutes to get a table (which wasn 't even the biggest problem). Let 's start at the beginning, when I came back twice to check on our place in line (we were told 15-20 min both times prior) I was greeted by an extremely unfriendly person who responded to my question of how much longer? with I don 't know I can 't tell the future, why don 't you walk by the tables and see if anyone is almost done eating. So that was rude, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt because I really wanted to enjoy some fish and chips. After we were seated, it took atleast 20 minutes before someone even made eye contact with us. Mind you, one server continuously went to check up on the large group of people sitting behind us, making sure they had water and taking their new orders (they had all been served already). Finally, right as we were about to get up and leave, someone frantically came over. We ordered the Fish and Chips and Root Beer. The Root Beer was flat and the batter on the fish was soggy and tasteless. I guess the Fries weren 't that bad but not worth the now one hour we 'd invested in eating here. If you are waiting in line and read this I urge you to get out and find somewhere worth eating, NOT this place.
Great food and such an awesome location. We had their lobster bisque which was fantastic and their haddock fish chips. Only critique is the bread that came with the bisque was very greasy but highly recommend both dishes. Also try their red ale. Really good beer. I took off one star due to the service. The other comments about the waitresses resembling Carla were accurate.
