Food was delicious, the host was incredibly knowledgeable and has a million stories to tell, and the building itself is full of history. Service is slow, but well worth the wait! View all feedback.
A history lesson and a great meal! The operator was highly knowledgeable of the area's history, and was more than happy to share many interesting and funny anecdotes with us. Even better, the food was excellent! I got the bison pot roast with succotash and sweet potatoes, and my partner got the Swedish meatballs. Both were incredibly good, and tasted fresh and healthy. The bread was fresh and homemade, and was awesome. I absolutely intend to come back and eat later.
It was an excellent experience. We met had a wonderful visit with 3 members of the "General 's Mounted Color Guard out of Ft Riley, Kansas along with the gentleman operating the Cafe he was full of interesting historical information. The food was delicious the atmosphere was lovely!! Yes, we plan to go back!!
We missed our original turn off 35 to go to Manhattan. This location showed up as a restaurant on our new route, so we tried it. Very interesting, make sure you have plenty of time to hear stories and look around.

If you are in Council Grove, this is where you should have lunch or dinner! The menu is an eclectic mix of Native American and various European dishes. Everything we ate was delicious. Due to Covid, they were only serving on the porch, but it was a lovely evening. The hosts are so friendly and informative! Other members of the local Historical Society came there to eat and we have amazing conversations. We were able to see the other historical buildings and mural on the site. We hope next time we can see the inside of the house for this is a true labor of love!
