Du... read more The church and convent of Order of Preachers was founded in Santo Domingo in1510. In the past time, the convent housed the first university in Latin America. Due to numerous armed conflicts, earthquakes, hurricanes, fate did not treat this beautiful building with tenderness. However, the church structure remains in proper condition. The Church houses wonderful Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary, the patron saint of the Order of Preachers. I visited in December 2014.

On what was the baptistry and mixed with the traditional images of the 4 evangelists, the 12 signs of the zodiac appear, revesling an affinity between the Catholic artists of the time and astronomy.

Due to numerous armed conflicts, earthquakes, hurricanes, the fate of this beautiful building has not been treated with tenderness. However, the church structure remains in a proper condition. The church houses wonderful chapel of the Mother of God of the Rosary, the patron saint of the Prediger Order. I visited in December 2014.
