Shunka Sushi Japanese Cuisine

The sushi here is still quite good, but the quality of the nigiri and rolls has declined. I understand that prices have gone up across the board, but the portion sizes are really small. This used to be my favorite place, but unfortunately, that's not the case anymore.

This is the top spot in the area for authentic sushi. If you're into American-style sushi rolls filled with mayonnaise and fried ingredients, this might not be the place for you. I highly recommend sitting at the bar and opting for the omakase.

Sit at the sushi bar and, if you're lucky, you'll have Tomo as your chef. The fish was incredibly fresh and delicious. We ordered the 8-piece omakase and a hand roll, and also asked for Tomo's recommendations for some extra fish. He had two live shrimp left, which he made into nigiri and fried the heads. It was absolutely delightful! If you're in the Costa Mesa area and love sushi, you absolutely need to visit this place. I highly recommend it—10/10!

The quality of sushi NETA is not bad, the SAKE assortment is boring and needs improvement.

I had the 8-piece 1 handroll omakase here with two of my other friends! Each piece was fresh, soft, and tasty to eat. The handroll was also well made and fresh. But the experience we had was what made me give this a 5 star review. The staff were very welcoming and pleasant, especially our sushi chef, Chef Juro. He made us feel welcome and comfortable with his friendly attitude and side jokes.One of my friends is allergic to scallops, and we forget to tell him beforehand. In response, he graciously gave her another piece on the house to make up for it! Would definitely recommend coming back here for the tasty yet affordable omakase and amazing customer service. Thank you Chef Juro and the rest of the Shunka staff! :)P.S. We will come back only if Chef Juro does our omakase again #onlyChefJuro
