What Darion McCullough doesn't like about Del Coronado, Curio Collection By Hilton:
Was so looking forward to going back here for a 3 day anniversary weekend. Worst anniversary in 22 years When you pay for an experience like this your patio is off limits with Yellow caution tape you know you have picked the wrong place. So disappointed. I would give them 1 star for their rooms response but 5 stars for their restaurants! Go there to eat but not to stay. View all feedback.

Overbooked, understaffed and under trained all at really high prices. Wonderful building with a ton of charm but that does not come close to making up for their deficiencies. The rooms were small and smelled like a retirement home. Booked a single king room. Ended up with a single queen. Will not be coming back.
The Hotel Del is beautifully kept with such history! Rooms and grounds are clean and well maintained. Staff were generally friendly. Location is stunning. Food was excellent, though overpriced in many instances. Our only major disappointment was the lack of clear communication about check in time. Check in “begins at 4”. We believed this to mean our room would be available at 4, but it was not for a few hours later. Please be more up front that this is an estimation and give us a time window next time! Clearer communication would have eased the frustration. Still-well worth a stay!
I chose a room on the Hilton app outside corner room. I had stayed here years ago in an interior courtyard noisy and airless. Got a push from the Hilton app at 12.00 saying your room is ready check in listed as 4.00 . So we went to the hotel early. 30 minute wait at front desk, told there was no diamond upgrades available as they were full. Went off to the room still dirty from previous guest, and not the room I had booked. Back to the front desk, another line. I was told the system was down, and they could not see what rooms were ready. While I was at the desk, I got another push from Hilton stating you have been upgraded . Front desk could not see this, and told me to come back later. I went back at 3.00, system still down, they could see the upgrade, but could not assign a room. I was told to wait for a text to say the room I had been given at first is available, then come back to the front desk and they would honor the upgrade. No text, so went back to the desk at 4.30 massive line, so stood at the side of the desk to ask for a quick word with the manager. I was approached by someone in a suit I think his name was Corey ? but he was too busy being condescending to introduce himself who told me to go to the back of the line. I said I had stood in that line 3 times today, and just wanted to sort my room out with the manager. He went off, and came back to say I had the courtyard room and it was ready. I told him I specifically had avoided a courtyard room, and that an upgrade was in the works. He then asked me how I had paid for the room, and I got a full on hand on the hip sneer, with him implying I was lucky to even be in the building. Noisy, stuffy room next to the wooden stairwell and elevator we would have slept better on the beach. Housekeeping did not put in appearance for 48 hours, despite the texts that they requite, calls to the front desk, and speaking to housekeepers in the hallway. Ended up hunting down a cart and getting our own towels. The room was only cleaned on the last day of a 3 night stay. Fantastic building let down by indifferent staff.
This was my first time visiting and my husbands second time. He wanted to show me the resort because he really enjoyed it 10 years ago but boy have things changed. Our service and our room has been nothing short of terrible. We arrived at 2pm on a Friday we were told we would be text some time around 4 to let us know our room was ready. We didn’t not receive a text until 5:35 pm. After a long day of travel we were tired and this was frustrating. No one at the front desk offered us a map or any information on the resort. Our room was not good, we had a room in the Victorian/original hotel. The furniture has been chewed by dogs, our bed was small, and worst of all we were outside the hotel loading dock which kept us awake and woke us up at all hours of the night with trucks and back up beepers. We were asked if we wanted our room serviced by housekeeping while we were here. We said yes. We were gone the entire day Saturday and no one ever came to service our room or give us complimentary water. We called Sunday morning at 8:30 to tell the front desk we were going to be gone all morning and we wanted our room serviced, we returned at 2pm and our room still hadn’t been touched. Everything here is extremely expensive and to a point we expected this but nothing as bad as it is. The only service at this hotel that has been good is valet parking and the bar at the Sun deck. As a travel agent, and this being my first experience here, I will never recommend this hotel to clients ever! Historic or not when you pay this kind of money for a room I would expect service and nice amenities.
