While some patrons praise the warm atmosphere and commendable service, others express disappointment over the underwhelming food and high prices. Issues such as stale ingredients, poorly executed dishes, and lack of follow-up from staff have surfaced repeatedly. However, the café does shine in particular offerings, with highlights including delightful cream teas and a charming setting. Overall, visitors should approach with caution, as recent experiences suggest a decline from past standards, despite glimmers of excellence still present within the menu.
I cannot say enough about Carriages restaurant at Trelawney Garden Centre. The food is excellent and the customer service is top-notch. This place is more than just a garden center, it's like heaven. I would recommend it without hesitation.
I stopped by for a cream tea and was pleasantly surprised by the size of the scone. It appeared hard at first, but was actually very soft and delicious. It was served with plenty of jam and cream, making the experience even more enjoyable. The view overlooking the water, and possibly even catching a glimpse of a kingfisher, added to the charm of the visit.
Visited Trelawney Garden Centre for the first time today. In the unlikely event that i return to the garde centre i will NOT be using the restaurant again. The system they use for ordering food is unworkable.
So visit lots of garden centres and their restaurants and I have to say this wasn't nice at all. We have visited afew times years ago and its just gone down. The staff we spoke with were nice but I'm sure they are aware it's going downhill. The fish and chips were awful, the fish was covered in the thickest batter that was pale insipid and when cut into raw and dough like, I asked for it to be replaced and cooked for the staff were full of apologies but i wasnt offered anything by way of compensation. My husband had a chicken caesar salad, so expensive for not a lot of chicken topped on lettuce leaves, disappointing. My fish was replaced and the replacement was exactly the same as the first, now not 1 member of staff came anywhere near the table after I received the fresh meal to check it was OK, I literally pealed away the revolting batter ate some of the fish and left all the raw batter piled high for them to see when they cleared the table, we had paid restaurant prices for this meal and left vowing never to return. I heard others saying the same thing about the fish on another table so I know it wasn't just mine.
Absolutely fabulous, from the moment you arrive you are in a magical Christmas wonderland, plenty of different items that you don’t see in other shops and still plenty of the garden department with lots of plants and accessories. We had lunch while we were there which was excellent, it was delivered very quick and was very tasty, staff were lovely. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
