Last time we played here it was Pencarrow GC and things have definitely improved. Lovely facilities now inc. tennis, a pool, accommodation and a changed setup on the course which we had always found to be a bit boring and wet under foot. Our golf...was good value with our County cards, the greens far better and improvements still taking place. It's a good test with some challenging holes for the average golfer but fa... We were at 11 slipway rock, one of the Point properties. it was very tastefully decorated with magnificent views. very well equipped. just a few minutes walk from the st enodoc hotel, paul Ainsworths’Mariners’ and the pedestrian to padstow. a few nice little boutiques. shops close and great walks through the dunes to the beach. no need to use the car if they didn't want to. the point facilities, the health club, the pool tennis, the golf were just a short drive away. a great relaxing break in the beautiful cornwall
Had a beautiful Sunday dinner in the point last week. the personal was friendly and the atmosphere was very relaxed. eating was good, the meat bark was juicy and tender and the service was good. would have liked to have some veggies with dinner!
Absolute disaster of a family lunch today. I arrived early and expected the place to be packed with it being Mothers Day I should have trusted my gut…. Sunday roast menu was really very average and if you didn’t like cheese you were lucked...out on the starters with either a cauliflower soup with blue cheese or Camembert.. Luckily I’m a cheese fan unlike some of my party. I opted for the Soup and roast pork. The soup came out and in fairness looked lovely but genuinely I have never had a soup of that consistency it was more like a mousse! Under seasoned (this was a common theme) and I left more than half. Then came the main course, well the cauliflower cheese came to the table first and I can’t for the life of me fathom how the 2 bowls left the kitchen, let alone got served on the same plate. One was absolutely burnt to a crisp and the other one looked like it had barely seen the oven. To the point I had to ask the server what the second one was and got told “oh it’s both cauliflower cheese that ones just done more”. Along came the pork (plated with roast potatoes, stuffing, tender stem and carrots) Broccoli was stone cold, carrots were hard, the potatoes needed a steak knife and the stuffing was nothing more than buttered crumbs that disintegrated when touched. The actual Pork was actually quite delicious the string I found on my plate though no so much. The children’s beef roast was as tough as old boots and drowned in some kind of herb oil.. (on a kids plate why? We did complain and we did get some of the meals removed from the bill and we did get offered complimentary desserts but we weren’t willing to chance anything else that came out of the kitchen. The F B manager took our complaint and explained (like the rest of the industry) that there were staffing issues and chef shortages however he quickly disappeared and was never seen again. I just can’t understand why a business would risk their reputation instead of closing until it can give a decent service or run a reduced skills appropriate menu. Service was also not up to scratch but compared to the food was 5 star. Such a shame as it’s a beautiful location with oodles of potential.
Played twice over the Christmas season and found the course in good nick for the time of year. Owners spending more money on updating some of the bunkers which is great. Will be back again for sure.
Had a very nice meal including Hake fish and chips with staff who are friendly helpful and knowledgeable about what they are serving. I am sure the views would have been good had it not been dark and howling a gale. The big bonus was...it was one of very few dining facilities open on a Monday in this part of Cornwall
