Spent a day here. The house is absolutely splendid and there are some lovely walks around the extensive grounds. It was raining on the day we went but as long as you are equipped with at least an umbrella you will be fine. Stout shoes would be recommended for the walks. Several coffee shops dotted around. Signposting leaves a bit to be desired but otherwise great. View all feedback.
What boyd1952 doesn't like about Cotehele:
Not a very good welcome oh you been before so know your way. No a number of yes since we where here. I found this property cold dark. Tapestries on every wall showing there wealth but makes rooms very dark cold. View all feedback.
Such a beautiful place lots to see and do. From the house, gardens to the lovely walk down to quay/ mill. Would recommend to anyone wanting a lovely day out.
I visited this restaurant for a stroll along the waterfront and through the wooded area, where it was cooler. The area was really beautiful, and since it was out of season, it was quite quiet. I can imagine it gets busy in the summer!
Cotehele is set in a wonderful location. The interior of the house contained a number of excellent historical artefacts. The gardens, although not extensive, were still very enjoyable and a great place to sit and soak in the marvellous views across the Tamar. The restaurant provided delicious snacks and lite bites. There is a bonus in visiting the Wharf and the Old Mill. Sadly, the Mill is not operational at the moment due to last year's storm damage to the leat supplying water. However, I have seen it working on a previous visit and it is a must see attraction. I understand the NT will get it back in full working order asap. Do visit if in the area. It is a little jewel nestling on the River Tamar.

This restaurant is definitely worth a visit not only for the delicious food, but also for the interesting items in the house. One highlight is the Italian ebony walnut carved cabinet with secret cubbyholes. The volunteers are friendly and will show you the hidden containers inside if you ask nicely. A special shoutout to the female volunteer who shared her discovery of the cabinet with us, it made our day! It would be a fun idea to hide some small trinkets or surprises in the cubbyholes for future visitors to find. And by the way, the mushrooms on toast made for a delicious late lunch option.
