We ate here twice and found both meals very good, although a little disappointed that two types of steak appeared on both evenings as we would have preferred a different choice. Seared scallops with butternut puree were delicious; salt and pepper squid was a little over cooked and dry; the vegetarian rainbow stir fry noodles was spot on. View all feedback.
What Jannerbloke doesn't like about An Boesti:
We noticed that An Boesti laid claim to two rosettes. But the experience was flat uninspiring and expensive. The room the furniture the presentation, the food and the service are all uninspiring. Certainly not worth the drive out of Plymouth or the price. There is a slightly cheaper brasserie type option but still lacking in buzz or attraction. If you find yourself staying in the golf hotel you may wish to do a bit o... View all feedback.
We visited for Sunday lunch and had an excellent meal served by friendly and attentive staff. Very well priced.
The restaurant uses local fresh ingredients, all 3 dishes we had were very tasty, and well plated which gave a great visual appeal to the meal. Staff were friendly and very helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant and staff cater for guests with allergies or special food requirements. Dishes were served in a good time from the taking of the order.
An Boesti purports to offer fine food but it is not fine dining as I know it. The food is average but served as if it were special. The ambiance also leaves a lot to be desired as it is a square room in a modern hotel. Not a place to return to.
Finding the restaurant from reception is quite a trek through 2 bedroom corridors and a lift. There were only 2 other tables occupied which didnt help the atmosphere at all.I agree with other reviewers that the decor and ambience was very much 1980`s four star chain hotel. The tomato and cumin soup was dreadful . The plates should have been hotter.A shame really but not what it is cracked up to be. Much better available in the surrounding area.
Came here for a meal with senior managers after arduous audit. Determined to do ourselves proud. But it was very disappointing. Despite the hype and pretensions, the soulless international business style decor, an Boesti was no more than that. No flair, no interesting, stimulating or challenging combinations. Nor even tasty or hearty food. A dismal two hours which could have been so good. we came away with a down beat consensus that St Mellion golf hotel had decided that it needed a flash swanky restaurant but had done no more than go through the motions. It needed character and verve, some spirit, all of which were completely lacking.
