Reviews - Aromas Plus
Reviews summary
Aromas in Corner Brook is a cozy, cafeteria-style spot known for home-style meals and generous portions. While some dishes like Greek pasta salad and fish chowder fell short, highlights include the coconut cream pie and turkey dinner. Service at Aromas can be hit or miss, with some patrons experiencing issues with billing and overcooked food. However, the atmosphere is welcoming, the desserts are delectable, and the staff are friendly and accommodating. Despite some inconsistencies, Aromas remains a popular dining choice, particularly for comfort food lovers looking for a warm, family-friendly atmosphere in downtown Corner Brook.

We went to lunch during a working day. The set-up was a bit like a cafeteria (the food along a counter where you pay and the tables throughout the restaurant), but the food was great and the portions were fair. The service... was a little slow, but they were blown up with the lunch break, so I don't think it bad when the server was polite and competent. View all feedback.

This charming little spot combines elements of a cafeteria and a restaurant. You can choose from the cafeteria selection displayed on the chalkboard as you make your way through the line—just grab a tray and let the friendly staff know what you'd like. They also offer a separate restaurant menu, for which a waitress will take your order at your table. The homemade meals and desserts are fantastic, with turkey being a staple on the cafeteria line—options like turkey dinner and hot turkey sandwiches are always available. I'm a big fan of their turkey dishes and usually order one of them every time I visit. This place has become a regular stop for me whenever I'm in the area.
Walking into Aroma's Plus felt a lot like entering a cafeteria, but when I saw the plates of other diners, my appetite was piqued. A colleague had raved about their fantastic turkey dinner for just $10, so I decided to give it a try. Up at the order counter, I noticed the food was served cafeteria-style. However, once I received my meal, I realized it was truly home-cooked, not your typical cafeteria fare. I took the advice of a local Newfie and ordered the Jigg's turkey dinner with dark meat. It came piled high on my plate, topped with my choice of gravy. So, what exactly is a Jigg's turkey dinner? I learned online that it’s a traditional Newfoundland Sunday dinner, akin to a Christmas feast, featuring turkey, mashed potatoes, turnips, carrots, peas, and stuffing. It was absolutely delicious, especially with all that gravy on top!
My friend and I chose to have a sit-down meal later in the evening when the place was quite quiet and casual. There were a number of regular customers, which usually suggests good quality food. I ordered a spinach salad, while my friend went for the Caesar salad. My salad was decent—not remarkable, but perfectly acceptable. Unfortunately, my friend's Caesar fell short; it was made with imitation bacon bits, powdered Parmesan cheese, and pre-packaged croutons, which was quite disappointing and unnecessary. As for the service, I expected better. The staff member seemed a bit unfriendly and not very welcoming. I was able to encourage her to be more pleasant towards the end of our visit, but overall, it was not an exceptional experience. In summary, while it's not a terrible place, I think it's better suited for lunch rather than a full dinner.
Not very good quality food... french toast was kind of rubbery. And their pancakes are premade and they just heat them up when someone orders them. Yuck.

The meal was average and overpriced. I paid $28 for dry pancakes, juice, coffee, an omelet, and hash browns.

Aromas is a great spot for turkey or roast beef dinner when you don't want to destroy the kitchen to make it haha. Thank you
Terrible customer service—our waiter never checked on us. The food was awful! When I finally told her after 45 minutes that we were unhappy with it, her response was to bring us the bill. I won't be coming back. McDonald's is a much better option!
We had a wonderful Christmas dinner with my co-workers last night in the private dining room. The decor, table setting, and food were absolutely outstanding! The staff were very attentive and friendly. Well done!
The service can be inconsistent depending on when you visit. Some servers are attentive and check in regularly, while others simply drop off your food without following up. The food quality also varies. I was quite let down by the steak sandwich—I was really expecting to taste the steak!

I had to serve myself coffee, which I found a bit unusual. The food was good, but the service was slow. It might have just been an off day.

The dining experience was mediocre and could have been improved by cooking at home. The service was awful, with the waitress coming across as unhelpful and rude. It felt like we were being attacked and we didn't feel comfortable throughout the meal. When we asked about a drink they didn't have, they offered no alternatives and just stared at us. We will not be returning to this restaurant.

We have dined at this restaurant several times over the years and it continues to be one of the top spots for a Turkey Dinner on the West Coast of Newfoundland, and possibly the entire Island. Guests have the option to wait in line at the cafeteria-style area or enjoy table service; either way, the food comes from the same kitchen. The restaurant boasts a fantastic atmosphere and the staff are incredibly friendly, talkative, and willing to assist. It is always bustling with locals, which speaks volumes about its popularity.
We went there more than 5 times in a week we staycationed in corner Brook, i would recommend this place to anyone
After spending a week in St. John's and then travelling across the island, only to have our ferry cancelled due to weather, we found ourselves unexpectedly stranded in Corner Brook for two days. Being sick of fast food on our travels, we asked a friend...who was from Corner Brook where to get a good home cooked meal. They recommend this restaurant, and they were right! We had a bowl of pea soup, which was amazing, and the pan fried cod which was also excellent. You could tell that a lot of locals ate there, as the staff seemed to know most of them by name. We were there around 06:30pm on a Tuesday night, and the restaurant was steady. Did find it a little odd that you served yourself water and ice, and got your own cutlery... potential food safety issues there with cross contamination between customers.
