What Dara B doesn't like about N U Sushi Japanese:
I walked in and the carpet was disgustingly sticky. I would have walked out but my friends were already there. Surprisingly the food was good. I enjoyed my sushi. The restaurant is tiny. Tables are only for either 4 or 2 people. Not good for groups. View all feedback.
We both opted for the Box Lunches, which provided more than enough food. Each meal included a salad, soup, and a spring roll, along with a choice of sushi rolls. The sushi was fresh and delicious, and I particularly enjoyed the ones wrapped in seaweed. Overall, we both had a wonderful dining experience.
This is a straightforward Japanese restaurant with a skilled sushi chef and exceptional fish. While the atmosphere isn’t fancy or particularly attractive, the sushi is absolutely fantastic. The flavors, textures, and temperature of the sushi when it arrives are key factors that determine whether I’ll return. A must-try is the Spicy Tuna Nachos—they're amazing! I’m practically drooling as I write this review. The menu could benefit from better font choices, photos, and organization to make it more visually appealing. It's a well-known marketing principle that the harder a customer has to work to read a menu, the less they tend to order. Next time I come here hungry after a workout, it’s going to be an epic meal!
The menu is extensive, featuring two large blackboards of daily specials that we didn't even get a chance to explore, along with an additional menu filled with numbered sushi roll specials on both sides. After placing our orders, we noticed a very attractive early bird dinner deal that offered good value. I started with a small house salad topped with ginger dressing, followed by a shrimp tempura appetizer. It included two shrimp, along with sweet potato, broccoli, and zucchini, all perfectly fried in a light, crispy tempura batter. It came with its own small bowl of dipping sauce. For my main course, I ordered a Number 39 roll, which was a crab and mayo mix wrapped in thin cucumber (without seaweed or rice), served with a refreshing sweet vinegar sauce reminiscent of sunomono. My husband began with a combo sunomono salad featuring crab, shrimp, and thinly sliced octopus over cucumbers in sweet vinegar. For his main dish, he opted for a Michelle roll that included raw sushi hamachi, which he really enjoyed, accompanied by a large hot sake. The prices here are very reasonable, significantly lower than many other Japanese restaurants we've visited. The service was attentive and accommodating, and we are already planning our next visit. I’m looking forward to trying one of their soft shell crab rolls or one of their salmon options—so many choices!
This is such a great sushi place! It 's in a very small strip mall, right next to the dry cleaners. Upon asking the owner, I found out that N U stands for North University. The owner is always there behind the sushi bar, which keeps everything consistent and delicious! We always start with a Tuna Tataki, which is topped with plenty of fresh scallions, grated ginger, and chopped garlic. It 's so perfect every time! We 've also tried Fabulous Tuna, which is Tuna Tataki with a different sauce, and is plated very pretty. It is great, but the Tataki reigns supreme. Even the Crunchy Tuna app is interesting and yummy with Japanese potatoes mixed in for that unknown crunch! I recommend trying all of these Tuna apps! Their ginger house salad is delicious. Great homemade dressing! I was excited to see they offer Harusame Salad, but this was a FAIL. Great texture, no flavor... it really fell flat for me. We 've tried many rolls, and we have many favorites! Tracey: tuna, cuke, cc, avocado inside out with masago. We have added jalapeno, and it 's the perfect kick. They make a great JB Tempura Roll, and we always have to share one! The Mexican Roll is the perfect Shrimp Tempura roll, with spicy mayo and avocado. The Dave Roll is topped with Tuna and Avocado, and inside is Shrimp Tempura and more tuna. It 's a solid choice also! The Conch Dynamite, which is baked conch inside of a roll, is yummy, and very reminiscent of a sushi place very special to me! I 've had it 2x, and really enjoy it! Despite the name being pronounced NEW , this place is as old school as it gets. This is why I truly love this place! Full of traditional Japanese kitchen appetizers, the menu is just full of so many choices! You could honestly read it for a full 30 minutes! The prices are very reasonable, and the quality is high! There is only one waitress, and she is nice and provides awesome service! You can tell she has worked her for many years. This is definitely our go-to local sushi place, and it 's a little dangerous that we live only 5 minutes away!
This place would cost a lot more if it was located in a trendy spot downtown. Lucky for me Yuji the owner likes where he is at and do not overcharge his great quality product. It 's quaint, small so don 't expect fancy. What you can expect is a great meal by the hands of an expert.
