Xcalak has a "coffee stop" in downtown. This is a great addition. Stop by coming into town or if leaving grab something for the drive. Or sit at the picnic table and enjoy the ocean steps away. View all feedback.
The Mermaid Cafe just opposite Toby's restaurant on the main street might look unprepossessing - it's basically a caravan with a few tables outside - but it fills a real gap in the market.Open from 7 - 10am, 7 days a week, the Mermaid is really the only place to find coffee, breakfast or snacks for any Xcalak tourists not staying in either self catering or B&B accomodation. And the food is great - freshly ground coffee, perfect scrambled eggs, pancakes, french toast, proper bacon and home baking. All served up by Paula with good humour and a healthy side of local knowledge. We looked forward to breakfast there every morning on a recent visit. For anyone familiar with the norm in this part of rural Mexico (a jar of instant coffee and a cup of hot water) Paula's coffee is a real treat - and her banana bread was an instant hit. There's also wifi available.
