Claiming this place is the best barbecue restaurant in the world would be an understatement. It brilliantly combines two of the greatest things in history: rednecks and BBQ. This establishment deserves to be franchised—it's truly a hidden gem located in the middle of nowhere that the rest of the world is missing out on. If I could, I would give it eight stars!
I ordered the sampler platter, and while it looked appealing, the experience fell short. The pulled pork was cold and mushy, as if it had been overcooked. The ribs were undercooked; I had to use a knife to eat them, and they were rubbery—definitely not the fall-off-the-bone quality I expected. The other items on the platter were forgettable, except for the Mac and Cheese, which seemed like it came from a box rather than being made from scratch. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend spending your time or money here.
Our waitress greeted us and promptly apologized, explaining that it was her first day and she was still getting accustomed to the place. This didn’t bother us at all, as she did a fantastic job throughout our meal. We began with an appetizer of fried green tomatoes, and they were amazing! Perfectly crispy and served with a zesty ranch sauce for dipping, the breading held up beautifully with each bite, and they were full of flavor (I even posted a picture of them). For dinner, my friend ordered the pulled pork sandwich, while I went with the catfish po' boy and fire slaw (also pictured). The slaw was a vibrant red but lacked the spiciness I had anticipated, which turned out to be my only complaint. Though it was delicious, I wasn’t exactly expecting the flavor. The po' boy was an incredible value at just $8.95, featuring smoked catfish that was breaded and fried on a soft, chewy bun that perfectly complemented the fish. The restaurant's walls are adorned with cool vintage signs, and some of them are sure to give you a laugh. The bar area looked great as well. The overall ambiance has a rustic feel with wooden booths, yet it is still well-lit. I can’t wait to return to Cooperstown and try this place again. If you’re staying downtown, hop in your car and skip Redneck BBQ, as you won't find many places in town that can compete with this gem!
Baseball teams beware!! We made a reservation a month ago, called twice while here in Cooperstown to reconfirm reservation for 50 people, 2 hours before reservation they cancel us and tell us they can't accommodate any more. Must have gotten a better offer. So disappointing and now we are scrambling. Best part, they didn't care at all! One of the worst experiences ever- do not go there
There isn 't a designated hostess stand, so you end up walking through the front door and just standing there, trying to get noticed by a staff member while also not being in the way of other customers. The wait wasn 't terrible, but there 's some organizational issues. We were finally seated at a sticky end booth, with small plastic cups (think Dixie cup) for our water and a roll of (DIRTY) paper towels to serve as napkins. I didn 't even want to think about the bare silverware on that sticky table, but I was starving. The menu options weren 't terrible, I 'll give them that I ordered a burger, some coleslaw, and some mac and cheese. The burger came with cheese (and the menu stated that there were several types of cheese to choose from), but the waitress never asked what kind I wanted on my burger. Afraid that she was going to put American cheese on it, I managed to snag the attention of a different waitress to tell her so she could hopefully get it fixed before the burger was done. My point being the waitress should have asked what kind of cheese I wanted, instead of saying yeah, if you don 't tell us otherwise, we use American . Speaking of the hamburger, the waitress did ask how I wanted it cooked, to which I told her I wanted it medium rare. She then told me that they don 't cook burgers any cooler than medium... are you kidding me? I 'm a paying customer and you 're not going to cook my burger the way I want it? What 's going on in your kitchen that you can 't cook a medium rare hamburger? Has me thinking it 's a raw meat/food safety issue. As for the coleslaw, it 's not your average barbecue coleslaw (i.e. with mayonnaise) it 's the type that 's made with vinegar. Doesn 't specify that anywhere on the menu. And it wasn 't even good vinegar coleslaw, so there 's that. The mac and cheese (served classily in a disposable paper dish) was probably the best part of my meal, and it tasted like the kind of mac and cheese you 'd find in the fridge section of your grocery store. There are plenty of other places in and around the Cooperstown area don 't waste your time or money here (I recommend the Blue Mingo, if you 're looking).
